I've heard variations of this story for years and I have serious doubts concerning them. Admittedly, Mariah does use her bi-raciality as a marketing device, but she's done so since the very beginning of her career. Her first round of publicity was with urban radio outlets and her first televised interview was with BET. She was even in Ebony just before her album came out. Right from the very beginning she was positioned to appeal to both urban and pop audiences.

M has always been up-front about being biracial, from the beginning of her career. Even though a lot of people didn't realize it at first, that doesn't mean she was trying to hide it.

Mariah even said once, short of putting a little identification sticker on each of her albums that read, "Hi! I'm mixed! My father is African American and Venezualan, my mother is Irish American!" she didn't know what else she could have done.

Something else Mariah likes to bring up is that "Vision of Love" was a #1 R&B song.

The chocolate brown dress and white princess coat/dress she wore recently are more age-appropriate. Any stylist who can get Mariah to abandon slashed T-shirts, gym shorts, hot pants, and ultra miniskirts is moving in the right direction. Now if he/she could do something about the bleached hair...

Hopefully she will not go back to her little girl skirts and tops. Man , with her all white outfit she looks like a lady. But I have heard "íts like that" and i dont like the song . may be later it will grow on me. it just reminds of charmbracelet album.

Whats with the talent she used to have?

She still has it. Unfortunately, she seems to be the kind of artist that benefits from an executive producer with a tight reign. When left to her own devices, she tends to lose focus and just rehash her old hits. I listened to Daydream and Music Box over the weekend, and it's amazing how well produced and cohesive these albums are. I think Butterfly was a little uneven, but it was her last album that had a clear and well executed vision.

It's Like That has actually grown on me. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

I don't know. I think I might miss the skanky Mariah a little. But she looks so much better this way. Whoever managed to change her mind about the clothes must be very persuasive.

Apparently, Mariah's going to be performing at VH1's Save The Music concert airing April 17. I have to say, I'm liking all the promo being laid out for this album. Now all we need is hosting/musical guesting on SNL and I'll be ecstatic!

M is on the cover of America Magazine this month. The whole article isn't up yet but this excerpt cracked me up:

Why did she marry Mottoloa sic that spelling? To get a record contract? To get connections? To save herself for her second marriage? To save herself for a Lovah? This girl needs some lessons from Brit and Cletus, the New Masters and Johnson.
