As much as I like to make fun of Titanic... the trailer in 1997 scared the SHIT out of me. That shot of the boat heading directly into the water with people flying off it? OMG, I was shaking and wiping away tears, it was so scary.

I give some credit to the beauty of the special effects which have held up really well, a bit to the Celine Dion song, a bit to the musical score, and most of the credit to Kate and Leo. I agree with all of this. I was really excited about the re-release, but couldn't find anyone to go with me - lame friends. Ha! Since we didn't have any Easter plans, I decided to leave the hubby and the toddler at home and go alone. And I wasn't crazy about paying extra to see it in 3D. But as soon as I saw Rose's purple hat exiting the car, I was hooked...again. LOL That said, I think a lot of the 3D went over my head. I definitely saw it in a lot of places, but I feel like I missed it a lot of places, too. No matter - I would have been happy simply seeing it in 2D again. And yes, I covet Rose's wardrobe as well.

OMG, I was shaking and wiping away tears, it was so scary. There is one shot that has been used in pretty much all the trailers, ads, and even the Celine Dion music video that has always stuck with me -- it's a quick shot of three people trapped on the grand staircase when the roof dome implodes from the force of the water rushing in. The look of pure anguish on their faces (from stuntpeople no less!) is just haunting.

MLBoy and I went to the 3D 20th anniversary revival. I think this movie has held up very well. Even though I’m not a Leo person at all, and I think he looks like a high school freshman in Titanic, the performances are excellent. I don’t fall in love with Jack, but I totally buy into Rose falling in love with him, and he with her. I think the casting was spectacular across the board.
I hadn’t seen this in close to 20 years, and there were two things that made me cry (softly, silently) right away. I had completely forgotten Bill Paxton! I miss that this fantastic actor and all around good guy is not I the world anymore. I’d also forgotten Rose’s Pomeranian. I am a Pom person, and I’m never going to get over the loss of my last Pom.
The 3D was well done. I’m not into 3D, but that was what was available nearby. MLBoy was completely absorbed and thought it was a great story. I made it through without crying any more until the very end. I was feeling pretty grown up and well adjusted, and then Rose fell asleep with the pictures of her full life, died, and walked up the stairs past all the good people who perished (Victor Garber!), and meets Jack. Then I ugly cried (along with 80%) of the theater.
We have a Container Store two minutes from the theater, so I had set up a Click n-Pick-up for some closet supplies to medicate my anticipated distress. Some nice soothing organizing calmed my tears, and I’m glad we went. MLBoy and I had an interesting conversation about why Rose threw the necklace back into the ocean.

I totally want to see this again, but it looks like my good-size city only has one AMC theater and it's pretty old. We are most definitely a Regal town, I guess. I'm not sure I'll make it over there by the end of the week.
I read an interview earlier this week where James Cameron is annoyed that people are still annoyed that Rose didn't scoot over on the door. lol

Isn't this about the third time Titanic has been re-released in theaters? I guess it's a nice thing that people who want to can enjoy it again on the big screen, but it also feels like a cash grab.
And I am amused that just like in 2012, Kate Winslet and Jim Cameron are out promoting the movie and Leo is nowhere to be found. He got dragged for it the last time, but I respect that he's not out hustling for more cash.

I saw the 3-D the last time it was re-released and I don't remember being that wowed by the effects, so I was wondering if they retooled it again for this re-re-release. And I'm seeing a 5-year old post just above this one that seems to say the same thing: So I guess it wasn't just me that didn't see a big difference in the 3-D, which would definitely add to the cash grabbiness of it all given the much higher price for a 3-D ticket. I saw that too, he's insisting that they ran extensive testing on the door to ensure that only one person could have survived. Frankly, I think he should be happy that people are STILL debating this 20 years later. I might go see this one again in theaters just because, but I won't be able to do my traditional ranting and raving about the deck scene, which features some of the cheesiest, most nonsensical dialogue. It's the part where Rose starts waxing poetic about the constraints of her life, offering up the most personal details with no provocation at all, and when Jack takes her cue and asks her a personal question, she gets all huffy. I can't stand that scene or Kate Winslet's acting in it.

I did extensive testing in my cousin's pool when I was 13 and two people can get on any kind of raft. You just have to tilt it a little so not too much water will flood over the top while the second person is climbing aboard. Basically the opposite of what Jack and Rose did when they made that one piddly attempt.
The theory that blows my mind is that Jack would have survived if Rose had just stayed aboard the lifeboat like she was supposed to do. Jack would have wound up exactly where he did next to the floating door, but he would have had it all to himself.

When this movie came out, I remember Dr. Laura Schlessinger ranting about how evil it was; I heard her rant and laughed so hard I nearly scared myself. What a loon that woman is/was. Is she still on the radio?

Woah, Neurochick, I don't remember that at all. What was Dr. Laura's problem with Titanic? The premarital fling between Kate and Leo? Kate showing a breast?
