I saw it tonight, and agree with the majority, it was very good but not mind-blowing. Every action scene was great, and it felt just like the other movies. Man, I could not love Harrison Ford more. Ditto! I felt so protective of HF at first: when he took that first dive to the floor, I was all "You guys better not hurt him!" And I'm glad the dialogue acknowledged his age. Now that I've had a while to digest it, I wish Mutt hadn't turned out to be his son... It seemed to zap their chemistry a bit. But I still enjoyed it overall.

Well, this may be unpopular, but I HATED it. Especially after having watched the first 3 in preparation the day before, but I was not impressed. Everyone in the theater seemed to feel the same way too. When they movie ended everyone was in a WTF?!? was that mode. But I did love the fact that they paired up Indy with someone who wasn't rail thin that looked her age and Marian was defintily my fave Indy match.

I saw it yesteday and loved it, but it's kinda hard to make me dislike anything that HF is in. Cate made a great Commie, too.

I am seeing it in about thirty minutes and am very excited. I didn't know Neil Flynn was in it!! I saw him singing karaoke once at Brass Monkey? downtown in LA and screamed out "It's Janitor!" That's awesome ya;ll thought that when he showed up on screen!

My boyfriend liked it and I thought it was ok. I remember really liking the first 3 growing up. I didn't think Shia and Harrison had much chemistry, but Harrison is still handsome after all these years.

Just got back, and man, some parts were so stupid and cheesy, but overall I really liked it, and wish that Harrison Ford and Karen Allen were together in real life. I think their chemistry is perfect.
ETA: Oh yeah. I broke out into tears at the trailer for Wall E. SO CUTE!!!

Yeah, there were lots of groaners, and I kinda want to punch George Lucas in the face even more than usual. But like I said earlier, I tend to think of Indy movies as fairy tales, not anything realistic, and that helps.
There was the usual Lucas/Spielberg stuff: cheesy dialogue, witty quips, racist one-dimensional bad guys, no-way-could-anyone-survive-THAT! action sequences, completely unrealistic archeology details. And Lucas needs to quit with all the fucking 60s b-movie shit, because GIANT ANTS *AND* FUCKING SPACESHIPS?! STOP IT! And p.s., asshole, those old fridges didn't open from the inside! But I gotta admit, I was happy to see Harrison Ford's sardonic, crooked grin... and the fedora.
There's a lot of penis stuff, too. That may be the point when the subplot is Indy's potential usurpation by his son. I could've done without everyone being ejaculated out of the temple thing at the end, though.
Like some of y'all've already said, I also liked that he ends up with the old woman in mom jeans, not the hot chick, as is so typical in Hollywood today. The crumbs, people! I'll take the crumbs!

Well, I loved the characters and the basic action. That said, why, why, WHY did they have to pick Aliens??? I know, I know, they figure into a lot of major artifact history. But the line "It's a portal to another dimension" should not EVER have been uttered in an IJ flick. Ugh. The skull looked like a bad ice sculpture with foil crumpled in the middle. Did Chris Carter hijack this film?
Also, what was up with the Aussie guy? He wasn't that interesting, and the trackers being dropped was pointing at him being a traitor so obviously that I really expected Marion or John Hurt to be the traitor. They should have left him out.
I'm also annoyed there was no mention of Salla. Did John Rhys-Davies have a falling out with someone in the film?

I really did like the Erich von Dåniken[/color] aspect to the aliens, especially since that and Indian Jones are the only exposure to "scientific" archaeology as some people get, so that metanarrative amused me personally. And, like Dwan says, it's all a swash-buckly fairy tale anyway. I was entertained and I only checked my watch a few times, and I liked the story, especially Cate Blanchett.

prydain, I had the same thoughts re: the skull. There were mixed reactions in the audience to it.
