I liked Shia. And Harrison. And Karen. And John Hurt. And even Cate didn't over do it. No one seemed to have much chemistry, though.
But Harrison looked fantastic. He looked his age, but handsome and vital, and way better than he did in the late 90s/early 00's. Very Han-like. I approve. Who is this man's surgeon?! He deserves a a Golden Scalpel, or some such.

Loved loved LOVED this, and couldn't be happier with the ending. I'd rate it as a rough equal to Last Crusade - not as good as the original, maybe, but far better than the awful Temple of Doom.

I saw this opening day, but haven't really had internet access until now.
I liked it as just an entertaining movie. It's definitely got the stench of Lucas on it (who I think lost his mind somewhere around 1982), but Ford and Blanchett make up for it. I haven't decided where it ranks in the series for me. Definitely third or fourth place - probably third, if only because I didn't want to smack the crap out of Indy's love interest the way I did in Temple of Doom.
But it did feel a bit disjoined, sort of more a series of events rather than a cohesive story. [spoilers!]Who the crap were the people at the graveyard? They just popped out of the trees wearing their skull masks and then ran off and no one explained who they were.
And while I don't mind the aliens storyline - Indy has always been about the supernatural - I kinda didn't like that the whole thing was explained. In the other movies, there was a still a bit of mystery surrounding what happened. Here we knew exactly what happened and we figured it out pretty early on.[/spoilers]
Just a general question - what happened to Short Round? In TOD Indy explains that he was an orphan on the street that Indy caught picking his pocket and he essentially adopted him. But after that movie, poor Short Round was never seen or heard from again. I can understand the women in his life coming and going, but a kid is different. Did Indy just give him 50 bucks, say "Good luck, kid" and drop him off at the bus station as soon as he turned 15?
I just think it would have been a nice touch to see a young Asian man in that last scene.

Short Round was annoying. I most definitely do not miss him.
I loved this movie! I especially loved Cate Blanchett, her character kicked ass. I wish I was an evil KGB psychic scientist. Everyone was good, actually. I liked that they didn't totally ignore Harrison's age, but also didn't make him any less bad ass. The action in this move was super fun, too.
In short, I had a good time watching this.

Oh, I thought he was annoying as crap too, I'm just anal about characters who just disappear and I thought it would have been nice to just see a young Asian dude in the background in that last scene. Maybe sitting next to Sallah (who REALLY should have been in that scene).
I loved Cate too. She was just camping it up and seemed like she was having fun. I just wished we learned more about her character. Maybe gotten into a little more about her mind-reading abilities - I thought that was a cool touch since Stalin did have some sort of ESP-research program.

I really enjoyed it. I'd rank it third in the series, and I liked how it picked up without a lot of exposition to explain the years between.
I figured the prairie dogs were a device to get the opening shot of the Paramount logo in. They have a different take on it for each movie, right?

Indeed they do, and I'm pretty sure that's the reason for the prairie dogs (which didn't bother me at all, but I seem to be one of very few who can say that.)

I really wanted to like this movie but it was just okay. I really didn't like the sci-fi plot at all. Also, Cate Blanchett's accent kept slipping.

How very Michael Jackson of him.
I enjoyed it. It didn't feel like an Indy movie until halfway through - when Karen Allen shows up. It was either missing humor in the first half or the attempts just landed like lead.
I heard about the aliens going in so it didn't WTF? me as much as it probably could have. Speaking of George Lucas, I notice no one claps for the Lucasfilm logo anymore. He's killed all that good will.
I do agree something about Indiana Jones and aliens doesn't jibe. Adding to the theory of them not leaving some things to mystery, in all the previous movies the mysteries were based in religious mythology (Ark of the Covenant, Sankara Stones, Holy Grail) and so making this one more sci fi just felt off. I get it in terms of the time period they set the movie in but...
It was like they took all the episodes from that old tv series "In Search Of..." and tried to morph a story out of it. Damn you, George Lucas!

Just saw it last night and this was pretty much my reaction as well. I like Blanchett as an actor but I felt that she wasn't evil enough and her accent slipping was a distraction. I also agree with Hal9000 about no one seeming to have much chemistry. Someone mentioned the people who appeared at the tomb and the temple. I thought they were like the people in the last Crusade who worked to protect the holy grail. What was that character's name, Kazim? The one with the tattoo of the cross on his chest. They were protectors. I laughed briefly at the monkey scene because the monkey had the same hairstyle as Mutt so maybe they recognized him as their kin?
