I was suprised at how disappointed I was with Shia after being impressed with him before - but then I realised that his character was barely written beyond combing his hair, so the poor guy had damn all to work with, really. It also makes you realise how little scope there is in these action movies for any character development for new characters.
I also could have done without all the "Commie" stuff. And do we really need to be reminded every five minutes that Indy served his country really patriotically during the war? I mean DUH! Of course he would have! We really don't need to be beaten over the head with this.
And yeah, I was rolling my eyes so hard out of their sockets at the plot that they almost fell out. BUT. I'd still do Harrison, who looked pretty damn fit for his age, Marion was adorable and just a perfect inclusion, and Cate was a good baddie. I also always love seeing inside Indy's house, which is a house I'd love to root around in for a day.
But on the whole, I think Spielberg is damn lucky we're all so sentimental about Indiana Jones. You overlook a lot of rubbish just because you're seeing a new Indiana Jones movie and you love the series so much.

I'm finally saw this, and it was silly, but great fun.
Karen Allen looked amazing.

Just got around to seeing this too. It was fun up until the last twenty minutes. I felt like George Lucas showed up and wiped his ass with the film. Cate really needed another villain to banter with. And yea, Karen Allen is amazing. I secretly want them to make one more film, but leave Shia off at prep school or something.

Indy 5 is gearing up. I would watch Indiana Jones read the phone book. Bring it.

Indy 5 is gearing up. I would watch Indiana Jones read the phone book. Bring it. I felt like this before I saw the last one, but it kinda blew. Harrison Ford was clearly having fun and he looked great and it was nice to see Karen Allen again, but...meh. It doesn't help at all that George Lucas has decided that he needs to fill all his movies with cutesy kid stuff now-a-days. The crap with Shia and the monkeys? Yeeeaaaaah. If someone else were writing the script, I would feel better about it, but it's apparently Lucas again.

I'll agree with you on the last movie, kostgard. He and Spielberg both need a CGI intervention, they were better filmmakers when they had to figure out another way to make it happen. The thrill of the truck scene in Raiders was that there was a real guy doing that stunt, and that made it so much more breathtaking. The monkey/ Jeep fights in Krystal Skull? People were laughing at how horrible the CGI was.
Too bad Lucas is so powerful there's no one who can tell him he sucks at screenwriting. But, I'm weak. Give me Harrison Ford in a fedora and I'm there, suck or shine.
