I think the movie has been out long enough that we can talk about it without spoilering things. I'll amend the thread title just in case anyone is still yet to see it and doesn't want to walk into a world of plot detail. FWIW, problems and all (really, Carrie, you could still trust Mr Big? ) I loved the movie. Might have something to do with pregnancy hormones but I blubbered my way through most of the movie!

Yeah, Mr. Big will screw Carrie over again. Soon. He's a total dick, but then again she's a self-centered bitch. It's a match made in heaven! Oh, and when Carrie got stood up at the altar? All I could think of was how much Natasha (ex-Mrs. Big) was laughing her ass off. Speaking of which, Carrie is such a tacky bitch to do that Vogue spread with the man she committed adultery with. How would Natasha feel seeing that? And yes, I am aware that Natasha is not a real person.

When the rumors got out last summer that Big would stand up Carrie at the altar, I was hoping Aidan and Natasha would show up laughing their asses off at some point in the movie. But, Bridget Moynahan was of course hugely pregnant last summer during filming, so that wasn't going to happen. It's funny to me how in her relationship drama, she was the Carrie, Tom Brady was Mr. Big and Gisele was the Idiot Stick Figure With No Soul.
The US Weekly I read at the gym had a two-page spread featuring burning questions about the movie, mostly stuff like how much things cost (Big and Carrie's dream apartment would be like $25 million), if you can really have a wedding at that library (no, but receptions are fine), and if the book of love letters really exists (not compiled as a book, but those were real love letters written by those historical figures).

The Vivienne Westwood wedding dress was teh fug. Like, horribly ugly. It had a shelf to hold her breasts and combined with the scraped back hair, the harsh makeup, and the bird in her hair she looked like an anorexic junkie tranny. Not a good look at all. The white suit on the other hand was really nice. And Louise's Louis: no-one would pay for that handbag unless it had a designer label attached. It looked like a five-year-old had attacked a normal handbag with a bunch of cherry earrings to pretty it up.

I loved the Westwood dress- but only in the Vogue spread, with the hair down, no tranny makeup, and no weird bird in her hair. I thought the suit was nice as well, but horribly out of character for Carrie. I did not, for one second, believe she would wear that for her wedding. If she were to pick something up at a vintage shop, it would be something much more flashy and unusual. I could see that suit on Miranda or even Charlotte before Carrie.

That's true: that suit was very out of character for Carrie. I liked the Oscar de la Renta wedding dress though (the one she was wearing when up the ladder at the shoot, for memory).
As for Samantha's supposed gut, I didn't even notice it. I was transfixed by the fugly outfit instead.

Samantha's neighbor, OMG! He was like a more chiseled better-built young Antonio Banderas. I almost swooned into my popcorn. Harry looked ridiculously foxy in that suit when was talking to Big at the hospital. I'm currently flirting with a Harry-type myself so I'm biased.
I was a little confused as to why Miranda moved out of the brownstone instead of kicking Steve out, but whatever. His mom was in a nursing home IIRC, so it's not like he needed to care for her there. I was a little vague as to why Samantha broke up with Smith. She couldn't manage other actors or do PR again or something? It seemed like she didn't really make a life for herself out in Malibu, she just hung around the house waiting for him to come home. And it had been a few years so it wasn't like the Carrie in Paris situation. I did like that she refrained from cheating though, it shows growth on her part.

My favorite part of this whole video is who they got to play Big. Sex & the City: the ClassicsI loved the movie, by the way - more than the show.

Does Carrie have any family? The show indicated an absent father, but have we ever met her mother or any siblings? No! and I always found that totally bizzare. I get that friends are the new family but come on. We didn't even see Charlotte's parents - not even at her wedding! we saw Trey, Steve and Big's mothers. We never met the mother of one of the women of SATC. Miranda's mother died but that's it. It is so weird. I was really looking forward to the movie but it pissed me off. I didn’t feel sorry for Carrie at all! I felt sorry for Miranda and Steve and I was much more interested in that then everyone treating Carrie like a wounded star child for something which I felt paled in comparison to Miranda’s issue

Here is what Michael Patrick King had to say (about the absence of parents) in a NY Times articles regarding the movie: NY Times Michael Patrick King interviewThis makes perfect sense to me. I actually liked that we never meet any of the ladies' family members.
