I think the difference between the movie and the show was that they were all into shoes and bags, and looking for princes - but they didn't find them, and survived anyway (well, they found the shoes and bags!). It was HUMAN when you picked the wrong guy, and you admitted it (except for Carrie regarding Big - which was always a big, annoying plotline). Carrie's affair made her look lousy, and they knew it. It was a big character flaw that they allowed to play out. Now with the movie they seemed to go strictly for the fairytale (please, Big put Carrie's shoe on?), 6 years of good writing be damned.

What was the name of the website from which Louise rented her clothes? I made a mental note to remember it but I forgot it now. I have no desire to see the movie again just for that but I figured one of you smart Greecies would know. Wikipedia is no help.

Okay, so I finally saw this. Late to the party, I know, but whatever.
I enjoyed it, although I read this thread first, so there were no surprises for me. I found it odd that they spent a good portion of the movie in Mexico, when SATC has always been about the wonderfulness of New York. I mean, in six seasons they barely leave the city and in the movie they all leave the country?
I didn't think the clothes were too over the top; many of Carrie's dresses were very cute. I really don't *get* couture; I mean, what's the point? All those weird clothes and strange hats and see-thru nonsense; no one can ever wear it, so why bother designing it?
Totally agree with those who were annoyed by Miranda's "I have a jooooobbbb!" wailing. Yes, you have a job and a kid, but big whoop. So do millions of other women, in fact, some have several children and they're not making six figures and they don't have a live-in nanny/housekeeper, and they still manage. Gawd.
Why did they say Lily was 3? Wasn't the movie 5 years after the series? And the series ended with Charlotte and Harry getting a photo of Lily, and she was a baby then. So she should be five, not three. Maybe I missed something.
Sigh, then there's Big. They really must have left something on the editing room floor, because how can they be so "we hate Big" for months and months, and then Carrie runs into him at their apartment and all is forgiven? Same with the girls? And when he changed his mind five minutes after bailing on the wedding, why didn't Carrie listen to him? Didn't he say he was wrong, he had cold feet? Surely she was expecting that, and there he was, turning around to go to the wedding.
Loved the wedding in the library. Cool idea.
Oh, and I didn't get why they were so aghast at Samantha's tiny little tummy pooch. First, it's very rude and unlike them to be like that, and second, it was not that much weight. Miranda gained way more than that on and off and they were never so rude to her.
Of course, Miranda didn't parade around in belly shirts. Samantha, belly shirts aren't even in style for lithe teenagers, almost-50-year-olds with slight pooches definitely should avoid them. Ugh, sometimes Samantha's clothes just reek of desperation.
And I heard that they are definitely making a second movie, and probably a third and fourth, depending on how the second one does.

I don't see where they can go with the sequel. Don't get me wrong, I will see it, and eat it up, just like I did with the first POS movie, but I really just can't imagine what ground there is left to tread.

I was confused about that too. I guess, technically, he did bail on the wedding since he was late (but late by how much?) I suppose but within the same time frame he changed his mind. So I was confused as to why Carrie wouldn't hear him out. I thought it was clear that he was saying "I'm here for the wedding" or something to that effect; I don't remember him making it seem as if he was there to dump her on the spot.
She was willing to hear him out months later.....so I suppose I didn't understand why she just didn't try and listen at that time either.
I suppose she was so embarrassed and humiliated she didn't want to speak with him but since he didn't bail full-on and took him back anyway I figured she good have taken him back at that time too. If she was worried about what the guests were thinking I figured they could have just made up some excuse to the guests as to why he was late since weddings never seem to start on time anyway.

Why did they say Lily was 3? Wasn't the movie 5 years after the series? And the series ended with Charlotte and Harry getting a photo of Lily, and she was a baby then. So she should be five, not three. Maybe I missed something. The series ended in 2004, and I think the movie was supposed to take place between 2007 and 2008. So, if Lily was adopted as an infant in 2004, it's not implausible that she would be three in 2007. It would have been much more interesting if Carrie was the one who got cold feet and backed out of the wedding. So much of her life was wrapped up in being single, and, as much as she wanted a relationship, she also wanted a certain degree of autonomy. I could see her really freaking out about leaving her apartment, and worrying that a marriage to Big would inevitably end in divorce, just as his prior marriages did. Plus, while Carrie got really caught up in the material aspects of the wedding, it seemed that she honestly did want a small, simple ceremony. If the wedding felt completely out of control, she may also have questioned whether the marriage was something she wanted. I didn't believe that Carrie would take Big back, after what happened at their wedding ceremony, but I think he could have forgiven her if she backed out.

I thought it was a bit of a stretch for Lily to be 3, too. The first picture of her seemed to be a slightly older baby who could sit up - so 6 months old? Anyway, I don't think it was given anymore thought than they needed her to be younger so that the girls could talk about sex in front of her and Lily wouldn't get it. That was supposed to be a cute gag - the little girl saying "SEX!" to Charlotte's horror.

I guess the best way to explain it is clothing as artwork. It's like the difference between me putting a $20 poster on my wall and Donald Trump putting an original Picasso on his wall. Not to get too Miranda Preistly, but sometimes elements from a designer's couture clothing trickles down to his ready to wear lines and eventually to the mass market. Like those big flower pins were on Chanel couture a few years back, and now you can buy knock offs at Forever 21. Same thing with car design- now you can hardly tell the difference between a couple years old Infinti G35 coupe and a new Nissan Altima coupe, and the lines of the Inifinti were probably influenced by a Maserati or some other high-priced car.
