Bought this film a few days ago for five Euro because I hadn't seen it yet and thought it'd be ok for that prize ;-). My God, what a bore that film was! And how utterly annoying. Charlotte did nothing but shriek in her first five or so scenes she was in. OK, so everyone shrieked a lot but she was completely over the top. Way too much fashion porn with the Vogue shoot, Carrie's closet show and NY Fashion Week. Yes, the show always had pretty clothes, shoes and bags but it felt like they wanted to pay tributes to every designer on this planet. Over the top, again, and not in an entertaining way. So many things that didn't make sense at all, starting with the whole wedding mess. Mexico. Everyone being shocked over Sam's "weight gain". The sad fact that the basic purpose of three (successful, busy) women in their 40's was to fuss over another grown up woman. That was so dumb. I know this is supposed to be Carrie's story/film but come on. The feeding scene was supposed to be touching but for me it was the moment they complete lost me.
I didn't think they cound make something even worse than the series finale. Now I can't believe they actually managed that.
ETA: didn't get the point of Jennifer Hudson's role but she didn't bother. Someone should tell her that there's something between whispering and shrieking. Like speaking with a normal voice that can actually be heard.

This has been all over HBO this weekend so I watched it. Charlotte has became the most shallow bore. What the hell was that storyline with the the stupid pudding cups? How am I to believe that this woman, who was an accomplished art dealer in the early seasons, is now so afraid of food served in a high-class resort. It's not like she was eating fish tacos from a roadside stand. I haaaate how everyone dropped everything so they could hang around and watch Carrie sleep for three days. Don't even get me started on Samantha's "fat gut". My boob has a bigger spill-over than that.

Mr. S. and I watched it last night. We alternated among being glad to see everyone (I still love Charlotte and Harry together, and Steve is still hot), rolling our eyes at the various wild implausibilities/absurdities, and marveling at how, even more so than the series, the film is total materialism porn.

I really liked the fact that these women are all so close that they dropped everything and supported Carrie. I also liked the feeding scene between Samantha and Carrie, because it showed just how truly intimate their relationship is. When you are over forty, you realize that you may have a husband, and even children but eventually the children grow up and have their own lives and husbands leave, die or get sick. The reality is that women take care of other women, I'm nearly fifty and I see that all the time.
A good friend of mine recently recovered from Cancer said it best; she's married, has two sons, but it was her girlfriends who stuck by her, who took her to the doctor, who advocated for her.

I will only watch the second SATC movie if I hear there's going to be a scene where Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte all take turns slapping the shit out of Carrie.

Their friendships are what make them survive.
