That sounds pretty bad, and yet a girlfriend asked me to go with her to see it this weekend, so I may see it anyway.

I hope to see it this weekend. Give me my fluff and clothes I can never afford.

I just saw this and it was horrible, truly horrible. This is coming from someone who even liked the first movie. This one was just absolutely ridiculous and IMO there wasn't any element of fun to it at all.

I wonder what happened there? It seems like Michael Patrick King decided to take on the movies all by his lonesome. He certainly bragged enough about how he sat down and wrote that whole first movie by himself (without realizing that it was nothing to brag about). He was a writer on the series, but he also had tons of help from some super witty writers (yes, judge me - I loved the series - until the end. Big carrying Carrie away like a white knight was bullshit). Why on earth didn't he want to bring in more creative minds? I know they're minor characters, but I absolutely hate the Standford/Anthony pairing. It just feels too convenient to marry off the only two gay characters - because they're the only two gay characters. I loved Stanford with Marcus.

Wow, that Salon article. The Orientalist crap is even worse than I would have suspected. I know they're minor characters, but I absolutely hate the Standford/Anthony pairing. It just feels too convenient to marry off the only two gay characters - because they're the only two gay characters. Plus, there was a whole episode where one of the girls (Carrie or Charlotte?) tried to set them up, and they made exactly this objection. The fact that they're now together anyway with no explanation is just a huge headdesk.

And God knows there's no life outside of the girls.

Anthony and Stanford? Didn't Stanford call Anthony a "bitchy little pine nut" (in the series)?
I thought that Stanford would have been open to the idea of getting together with Anthony if Anthony weren't such a bitchy queen. Anthony definitely hated Stanford's guts.

There's a throwaway line about how they used to totally hate each other, but we're just supposed to accept it otherwise.
My friend had a ticket to the midnight show last night and, yeah, it's really, really bad - and I'm a genuine fan of the series and the first movie. A tipsy sold-out crowd was dead silent most of the time, so that gives you a sense of how few jokes or amusing moments there are (whereas the opening weekend show of the first movie was a total blast of everyone laughing, cheering, etc) - the plot is pretty much nonexistent. And the clothes are really, really hideous for the entirety of the desert trip.

Uh oh. Mental note - Go to a matinee. Were the clothes at least pretty? NO! Kristin Davis was the only one who escaped the wrath of Pat Fields this time. Lots of shiny jumpsuits, harem pants, turbans etc that made everyone look like clowns (even more than usual). SJP is really invested in this Halston relaunch because she wore the same pleated dress in four different lengths/colors. One of my favorite scenes in the first movie was Carrie trying on all her old outfits. In this one all we get is Carrie briefly wears the newspaper dress she wore to "apologize" to Natasha. I'm still trying to decide which was worse: Miranda's wedding dress , or Carrie's insane market outfit. The biggest disappointment? NO SHOES! Aside from a brief shot of some sparkly Louboutins, I can't recall a single pair.
