I've never been impressed with William Shatner, though I appreciate his fame. I would think much better of him--esp. considering his aggressive campaigning/whining to get a "larger part" in this movie--if he just sat out the premiere quietly. It's not always about him!

I've no desire to see this film, but my friend wants to drag me to it. Grrrrr. I'd rather watch Wolverine twice in a row.

I went to the UK premiere last night. Did it premiere in the UK first? Nobody else seems to have seen it. Anyway, if I'm the first, I will say I found it really enjoyable. The plot isn't fantastic (there are definitely Trek episodes with better) but the acting, action set-pieces, humour, etc. all make it a fun experience. And if you're a fan of the original Trek there are enough fanboy/girl references to keep you squealing. It's the kind of film where there's lots of little moments or lines that you love. Best out of the lot was Karl Urban as Bones; he just had that character down. Pine is different from Shatner but I liked him. The person I was the feeling the least was probably Quinto as Spock (but I admit, I don't like him as an actor, anyway, so I'm probably a little biased.) I will concede that he is very good-looking in person. As is Eric Bana. Oh yes, as is Bana. (There's not a drooling smiley, so that one will have to do.)

I have a serious soft spot for him since his days on Xena. And Bana... well, now...

And as for Eric Bana?

I had the hots for Evil Caesar, but he looked so damn hilarious as Cupid with the wings!
The need for a drooling smiley feels overpowering right now. Heh.

I have been watching clips and trailers of this and I hate to say it but it looks terrible I love most of the people in it and I was BIG into Star Trek up until the Deep Space Nine years and subsequent incarnations. I'm kinda sad that it doesn't look like it'll be any good.

I can't wait to see it.
I wonder how far in advance I will have to buy tickets so I can see it next Friday night. My only free night in forever.

ronette, I'm jealous! And glad to hear it was a fun time. That's exactly what I'm looking for. If you remember, how was Zoe Saldana as Uhura?

Hey bklynred. Yep, I heartily recommend the film for a fun night out.
As for Zoe Saldana, I'm someone to whom Nichelle Nichols is just an awe-inspiring goddess, but I thought Saldana was all right. I liked her in her early scenes when she's bantering with Kirk - she and Chris Pine really crackle on screen together. It's just that when something that is a really big spoiler happens (which I won't reveal), she becomes much more of a traditional 'female' character, all worried and motherly, rather than as kick ass as she seemed at the beginning.
And much like the Trek series, while characters get their little individual moments to shine, nobody whose name is not Kirk or Spock really has all that much to do. I hope if they make more movies, Uhura, Sulu or Chekov get to be the driving force behind storylines sometimes.
