My audience was so rowdy for X-Men on a Sat night, I'm trying to see an a.m. show of this over the weekend.
Peggy Lane, I stood in the rain at 10 am to see Return of the King, and before the movies came out I couldn't even tell you what a Hobbit was.

I saw Star Trek earlier tonight and just loved it. A perfect blend of action, humour, tragedy and that intangible Trekkie goodness. The very pretty cast just nailed it across the board. The constant use of lens flares was a bit much but I can overlook that.

Decided you can't wait for the Saturday AM show, bklynred?
Not like I blame you. I'm dorked out on excitement waiting for 10am to get here so I can go. One of my friends is meeting me, so I feel better that I have someone to go with.

I just saw it. OMG! Everyone does an incredible job.
For me, one of the best parts is Chris Pine bringing the pretty! (Yes I'm shallow).
The direction and cinematography are top notch. (I can't believe how many of the LOST crew was on this production too.)
The special effects are mind boggling. You can see the $150 million price tag up there on the screen. Breathtaking!
I'm not a Trekkie at all (embarrassing confession. Years ago I was promoting Galaxy Quest, and I had a Saturday morning promotional screening, and I saw all of these people in uniform. So I said to my main movie critic "What are all of these Green Berets doing at my screening"? She rolled her eyes and said "They're Trekkie's". All I could say was "Oh". I'd never seen Star Trek. I don't know the history.... but I was there from start to finish on this movie.
I highly recommend it.

I'm not a Trekkie either, Martini Girl, but I was thinking about skipping school tomorrow morning to go and see it. Unfortunately, I have so much work to do that I've almost talked myself out of it. But then...one day won't matter so much, right? If I spend a lot of time studying this weekend....

I just got back and I want to make sweet, sweet love to this movie. [/huge trekkie fangirl] But in all seriousness, I echo everyone's positive reviews so far. It hits the perfect blend of humor, drama, sci-fi, good acting, etc. JJ Abrams and the screenwriters managed to retain everything that was awesome about the TV show, expand upon it, yet still make it their own. I was never a original Trek fan - I was more of a TNG girl - so I'm getting the feeling I missed out on some subtle jokes/homages that those more familiar with the storyline will get. I won't fangirl over everyone else (though I want to!), but I WILL say 1) Eric Bana chews scenery like none other. I think that was the only minor thing that bugged me about the film. 2) For some weird reason, John Cho as Sulu made my heart go pitter-patter. The scene where he whips off his helmet... (It was in the trailer, so I don't think it's a spoiler) Also, for those of you who are wondering if there's anything at the end of the credits, there isn't. Just so you know. TONS of people at my theatre waited until the end and... SIGH. Disappointed again. Just kidding! It was fun hanging out in the end with all the hard core Trek fans, hearing them debate how the movie changes cannon, etc. I bet they would have stayed longer, but security started coming in to stare impatiently at all of us. Also, random fact: Trek fans are very good-natured, apparently. Our film stopped RIGHT before the climax. Instead of getting upset as I think any person into the film would have, people started joking/yelling out endings to the movie. I think my favorites were: "That was it, folks! See you all next summer!" and "Hey, JJ provided us with a built-in bathroom break!" Oh, and if you go to a late showing, bring caffeine or something. The movie's pretty long and draws you in, so you end up feeling kind of exhausted afterwards.

Awesome, awesome movie. Entertainment distilled down to its purest form. The movie really doesn't let you catch a breath the whole time. Everything looks GORGEOUS--the sets, effects, the beautiful cast--and the "reboot" plot device works better than I could have imagined. You don't question the authenticity for a minute.
The only thought I had while watching it--other than OMG this is so much fun, look at the pretty, wheeee--was that I'm not sure it was Trek, really. Even with the presence of Leonard Nimoy to tie it together, I'm not connecting it in my head to the larger Trek universe I've known and watched my whole life. That being said, the movie is so great, so fun, and such a shot in the arm for the franchise that I'm not really sure I care. I'll need to see it, oh, five or six more times to really figure out how I feel about its place in the Trek universe.

I loved it!!!!!
Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought,"Christopher Pike is a busy man. When he's not writing teen horror books in the 20th and 21st centuries, he's the captain of the USS Enterprise in the 23rd(?) century."
I almost expected Spock's Dad to tell young Spock his conception and birth was a mistake.
Anyone else think it was weird that Nero's main henchman was more of a badass than Nero himself?
While I don't think Zachary Quinto is attractive in real life, as Spock I would do him in a heartbeat.

His Spock was mind-meltingly hot. However, Chris Pine's James T. Kirk was like liquid sex on the screen, so it's a quandary. And John Woo's Sulu brought the sexy...hell, even Sarek brought it. Best eye candy of the year. Damn, who was the kid who played Kirk's father? Also exceedingly good looking.
I expected a lot, and I got even more. Seriously, it was just so good. It was as good as I wish Star Wars I-III had been. Super entertaining. When we left the theater I couldn't believe two and a half hours had passed. My attention never wavered.
