Here’s another link to Victoria Rowell’s familyCarol Channing is also supposed to be of African American descent. Here's an interesting siteSurprises, at least to me, Slash from Guns and Roses is half African American, and Tyson Beckford, Kelis, and Naomi Campbell are all part Chinese.

I saw her interviewed. Her father was half-black. She said that she was always proud of her ethnic heritage.
ETA: Oops. I meant Carol Channing. I was responding to the previous post before it was modified.

Yeah who? And if we go by that definition, then my mother is bi-racial, just because her father was Jewish and Black.
I think he told a bold face lie, because I saw both of Prince's parents, who were just light just like him, with his dad being a shade or two darker. Prince's half-brother though is bi-racial, because his dad remarried someone I think who was Italian.
Re: Celeb offsprings
Someone needs to link up Donna Summer's oldest daughter photo and Lionel Richie's youngest daughter. I think his pretend "adopted" daughter Nicole looks black, but his youngest daughter does not, but she does favor Nicole. So, I can't say her mother stepped out on Lionel. Oh, someone needs to link up Iman's daughter with Bowie, and just because I'm dying to see her kids, Thandie Newton's crumb snatcher.
This is still up for debate. My Jewish teacher told me that it was both religion and a race.
My grandfather was half Jewish, and I tend to think that it is a race. If you think of it, sceintifically, with Tay Sachs disease, some physical features some may have, and all. Now, I may be right or wrong, but I tend to think if a cluster of people stick together long enough to be link to a disease, such as Tay Sachs, even when they are no longer living in Eastern Europe, then there has got to be a racial link.

With regards to genetics, yes the reason for Tay Sachs occuring is because of internarriage etc but also evolving for a "protective" reason, people who are carriers for the gene can survive TB better, same with North Africans and sickle cell anemia and malaria.
And "technically" you are Jewish if you mother was Jewish. And the whether we are a race or ethnicity is also difficult but I will not go into that as that involves discussing Judaism which is not what this topic is about.

Except he's from England. I'm not normally attracted to men dressed as The Cat In The Hat but I've had a crush on Slash since I was about 12.
bfrog: you said whatever the heck I was trying to say much more eloquently. I suppose it's human nature to categorise but whenever someone says race has a solid genetic basis the scientist in me goes but... but...

Scientifically, race doesn't really exist at all. Genetic similarities and differences do not fall along racial lines. Race has sociocultural and historical significance.

Jewish isn't a race, it's an ethinicity, like being Italian.
When you talk about race, these are the ones acknowledged:
Asian White black Native American
I am shocked that Samuel Taylor Coleridge had black ancestry.

Um, does anyone know if Kelsey Grammer has any African ancestry? Like, maybe really far back in his family tree? Because there's something about his face, his nose especially...I know that his family is from the Caribbean (although ostensibly European).

Peter Ustinov was related to the Ethiopian royal family on his mother's side.

Well, easy to believe now that Mariah is embracing her heritage, albeit in a horribly crass way. Her new single contains the lyrics "these chickens is ash and I'm lotion." And as EW pointed out her album covers make her look like a Beyonce-ripoff. So Sin City (go! now!) is like a multiracial-multiethnic haven of ladies -- with Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson and surprisingly latina Alexis Bleidel. Also in the movie is the great Carla Gugino: she's italian-american but I also sorta thought she might be multiracial as well. But that could just be that she's been cast as a Latina several times (TV's Karen Sisco & Spy Kids -- unsure if Karen is actually written as ethnic, by J.Lo originated the role, so..) . I can't help but think of the Dave Chapelle skit when reading these thread.
