Gossipista, since you're Anglo-Indian, do you have any speculation on Heather Mills (Paul McCartney's wife)? I was surprised to read that her mother was born in India during colonial rule (her grandfather having been a British officer). So she's likely entirely Anglo, but that was the story about Viven Leigh as well and you have your doubts about her, so I was just curious.

There are rumors that Beethoven had black blood. Did Babe Ruth ever address the reports that he may have had black ancestry?
Also, I don't think that Baltimore at the time of Ruth's birth or child was predominately black. Can anyone say for sure?

I have never heard that about Mills-McCartney, but given the background you provided it's entirely possible that she has a bit of *wog* (that's what the British called the mixed and the unmixed in India -- I don't mean it as an insult to anyone -- my parents were called that) blood.
Many of the British soldiers stationed in India married mixed blood women, many of whom were trying to pass as "white."
Do you have any more information on this -- like family names and birthdates of her family? Birthdates especially would help -- even if you could tell me which approximate decade.
I am fascinated now, so if you can get me any information I can try to find out.
Thanks!

Anyone know about Jack Johnson? He's one-half frat boy, a quarter Dave Matthews Band, 12.5% John Mayer, and the rest is small sprinklings of Jason Mraz, Phish, and anonymous stoner jam bands. But if you're talking about the boxer, I got nothin'.

I'm not positive about this, but I think not. I consider myself a fan of Nicole's and out of the many articles I've read about her, I've never seen anything that indicated she was mixed-race.
So I suspect she may be no more mixed race than most other African Americans. I think she simply has fair skin.
But I certainly understand the question. There seem to be so many bi and multi racial people in the biz, that it seems that almost everybody who passes the brown paper bag test is a mixed-race person.
I think it's made some black people who are simply light-skinned, a bit paranoid. ;D

No, he just took the taunts. According to one website, he was left home a lot to raise himself. Some accounts, say that both parents loved to drink. There was one story I read that said his mother was very frail and couldn't handle him. However, they all say that at the age of seven his (white) father dropped him off at the Catholic orphanage. This makes me believe that his parents were getting questions from folks about his heritage, but according to one site, it was due to his unruly behavior. Still, the orphanage allowed one Sunday visit a month, but his folks never visited him. Another thing, he had two wives, but he never had any biological children. (He adopted a daughter with his wives) Now, that could be a physical problem he had, it could be due to him being raised in an orphanage, so it could be just a coincidence. If you click on this link and type in blacks it'll tell you that the black population was at 20% at the time in Baltimore, Maryland, which is 1 out of 5 people. Now, that's not predominately black, but blacks are a minority. Today, blacks are only 13% of the US population, so 20% is quite high for 1940, and in my opinion qualifies as a black city. link

But if Babe Ruth was partially raised at home, wouldn't he have been aware that one of his folks had black ancestry? Whatever happened to his folks? Did they ever come out of the woodwork when Babe got famous?
Also, what would having no kids have to do with him being raised in an orphanage?

The biological daughter wrote her autobiography some time ago.

He was 7 years old. My Latino neighbor was adopted at birth by my black neigbhors. As late as the age of 9, she thought her light skin adoptive mother was white and her dark skin father was black. The funny thing, her mother was not that light. Babe's mother was rumored to be half black and was married to a white man. Obviously, she was able to pass, so I don't think Babe would have noticed much.
His mother was very ill, always, knocked up, but only had two surviving children. When Babe was 17, she died. That was a few years before Babe hit it big. It was reported that Ruth was estranged from his family. Then there are reports that he worked behind the bar at his father's bar, and his father kept a photo of Babe working at his bar, behind the bar.
I don't know at what age did he work the bar, but according to his autobiography, he was drinking and smoking at the tender age of 7 at his father's bar. He admitted he needed to be removed from the home, because he spent a lot of times with rough characters on the streets of Baltimore. Regardless, his parents never visited him, and they were only one mile away from the orphanage. Back then a minor was under the age of 21, and he was adopted at 19. It was reported that he was estranged from his family, and his father died on the streets, fighting his brother-in-law in front of his bar.
Nothing. I was just speculating that perhaps, he didn't want to have kids, because he was fearing they would turn out black.
