I have a very hard time believing that. The doctors would be making themselves vulnerable to massive malpractice lawsuits if the patients ended up having complications or dying.
But, like with any other profession, if you search diligently enough I'm sure you can find a doctor who'll do anything for money.
Drinking and staying thin is actually pretty easy to explain. Alcohol does have a lot of calories, but the body has only a very limited ability to turn alcohol into stored fat. Alcohol calories can be used to fuel the body at the time of ingestion, but only a small percentage are stored as fat. If you drink and eat at the same time, your body will burn the alcohol and store the excess food calories as fat, but if you drink on an empty stomach you won't gain weight.
Of course you'll probably get cirrhosis of the liver, but you'll be skinny!

Driking straight vodka rather than cheap beer helps too.

I've noticed that this thread is all about women. Do the men not diet?

The only answer I can give you MrsOldManBalls, is that Hollywood goes by the same standard as the media: Women are supposed to be young (or young looking), skinny, and obedient. Meanwhile, their male counterparts can gain 50-70 pounds with nary a word. Do you really want to hear how John Travolta gained 50-70 lbs., while everyone tiptoes around that very noticeable fact? I have to admit, it annoys me. I think it was one of the Discovery channels that had a special on male eating disorders, and how the explosion in popularity concerning plastic surgery had made men more insecure than ever. I really wish someone would do an in depth documentary on this.

I think it's also tied into the double standard of society -- clothing options for women are more diverse yet often more formfitting/revealing whereas men have fairly basic fashion choices, metrosexuality be damned.
Meaning that, an actress will have to look good in just about anything -- swimsuit, skimpy dress, casual wear -- . whereas a guy can always throw on a half-decent suit for the premiere and call it a day. Given how close the fashion and entertainment worlds are now, almost all actresses have become actress/models. If I were female and had Cavalli and Versace offering me free dresses to wear to events, I certainly would try to keep a figure. (I would also not consciously dress like a bum -- damn right I went there, Mary-Kate) You never see men being asked who they're wearing. The rise of the lad mags (Maxim, FHM, etc) requires every rising actress to show some skin. Even VF put all the housewives in swimsuits, which would never happen for an Esquire cover. I have often thought of how Cosmo should retaliate and become a female lad mag, with a shirtless Ewan or Clive on the covers.
As mentioned, there are several alcohol choices which aren't too sugary. Vodka and sugar free redbull, anyone? I witnessed how out-of-hand this has become recently at Mexicali in the Valley. They have a "Jessica Simpson Margarita" made with a splenda-based sweet/sour mix, so it has no carbs. (someone reported a sighting of her there to Defamer, so I guess they made it for her regular visits. lame). I would've definitely ordered it if it came with Jess's preferred rim of blow rather than salt.
Coke will pretty much negate all alcohol calories as well. I read that a person with a gram of cocaine (which isn't too much, actually) in their system burns 60% percent more calories, even at rest.

A gram is quite a bit if you put it all in your system at once! Besides you'd not be at rest for long so we'll say that one gram = 200% increase in calories burnt.

Not a bad idea. But judging by who they've featured on their covers so far this year, they're becoming more like Tiger Beat with sex tips.
That would explain how these starlets get so scrawny in such a short amount of time. I'd imagine they're barely taking in food between snorting sessions.

Colette, didn't Elizabeth Taylor sue her doctor at some point for overmedicating her to help her lose weight?

I don't know, but it certainly sounds like something that could have happened.
