I don't have anything real to say here except that I have always wondered why all the houses on Cribs are so...blank. Bland. Boring. Lame. I mean, you've got all this money, and you buy a McMansion with no character and don't decorate it for shit? Barely even put pictures on the wall? The only cool place I saw was whatshisface of Virgin Records. His place kicked ass.

I, too, am generally underwhelmed with the homes on Cribs. They are really nice, but they do tend to be bland. It's how I feel about the model homes where they all look the same, it's not that they aren't nice, but they don't have a lot of character and charm. I remember Shakira had a really cool house. I remember something about having pieces of a factory there, and it was just cool looking.

I liked a lot of The Osbournes' house. A little less on the skulls, maybe, but still....
Yeah, I'm with y'all on the McMansions! The best celebrity house (or houses, actually) ever is anything occupied by Betsey Johnson. If she wanted the Goddess of Foof title, I'd have no choice but to give it to her.

It's not just celebrities, it's everyone in LA. No-one there beleives that you can improve on a plain beige wall, except perhaps by painting it pinkish beige.

My favorite celebrity house on Cribs...Melissa Joan Hart and all her GIN!
Okay, I'm kidding. Really, though, most of those celebrity homes shows (as well as the spreads in In Style) tend to run together. Big pool, jacuzzi, four Escalades in the garage--blech.
Minna, I'd love to see your pictures! My family did the star map thing when I was about ten, but I don't remember any of the houses! I, of course, wished Jonathan Taylor Thomas had been on the map, since I had such a crush on him.

Many of the people on Cribs, especially the younger less-established stars are only renting those places. Taxes and upkeep are high and who knows if the next album/ film will do as well? Or they buy a place but are away from home so much that they don't really bother to decorate and make it homey.
I'd bet many b-list stars don't have as much money as they like to portray. I remember seeing Trina on Cribs and she was a total label-junky with these Versace dishes and whatnot, but the house itself was very average and in an average suburban development. I know middle-class people who have the same house or nicer.
I like the houses that are on the water. Nelly had a nice house on a lake, but I'm not sure of the location. There was also a baseball player who had a nice lakeside home (I think in Florida) with a boat for family outings.
Moby had a nice place, I think in upsate NY. It's very Zen and minimalist on purpose. I wouldn't want to live there, but I loved the architecture.

But Ashton Kutcher had his good ole' Iowa mom decorate his house!
I love the hip-hop artists on Cribs who are like, "Here's my ginormous empty living room with a lazy boy and fifteen televisions in the corner for playing video games."
T-Boz had a replica of her mansion built for her daughter in the backyard, which I think is really ridiculous.

I was never into KNotB, but I did like Joey McIntyre (sp?) on Cribs because his house was actually old and he was very proud that it had been part of the Underground Railroad.

I completely agree!!! The crib episodes are just so monotonous, if its a young guy, he has to have the prerequisite Scarface DVD, poster etc and of course an Escalade with 20" rims. The house that I was impressed with was Mark Hoppus of Blink 182. He has a pool that had fiber optic lighting at the bottom in the shapes of intricate constellations in the solar system and I believe he can change the shapes to many different variations. Its basically like looking at the night sky in your pool. If I had shitloads of money, I would get little touches like that to make things look better.
If I could get a tour of any celebrities house, it would be Jack Nicholson. He lives in a modest house on Mullholland Drive (modest in celebrity standards). Supposedly he has greater than 100 million dollars of art in his house. He has Monets, Renoirs and even a Picasso in his bathroom.

What a place of honor for the Picasso! Then again, when the art you own is all of that caliber, you can't exactly put a Thomas Kinkade over the john.
