It's Halloween and I thought of a unsolved murder that has haunted me (pun intended) for decades. It's the case of Alicia Showalter Reynolds, a young woman who went missing in 1996 and was found dead not too far where I live. Later, I found out that there have been multiple case of missing and murdered women on the "Route 29 Corridor".Any cases like these where you live? I remember this! I went to college in this area and around the time period of the "Route 29 Stalker." This was early Internet and early cell phones so the spread of information and access to information was limited. I want to say I saw something about this on Unsolved Mysteries at one point too. The area where I went to school was not so developed back then - it is much more now - and this type of thing scared us all to pieces. Not long after, the DC Sniper attacked around here too, although I was no longer living there and had moved further away.

Did you go to UVA, WestEndGirl? No, a smaller school in northern Virginia (Fredericksburg) along that corridor though!

Just watched Dirty Pop: The Boy Band Scam on Netflix, a documentary about Lou Pearlman. Holy Cow, I had no idea any of that stuff was going on, or that Pearlman was sentenced to prison for what amounted to the rest of his life and died there. Only 5 people showed up at his funeral. What a fall from grace.
(Basically, he ran a Ponzi scheme for 30 years and the boy band creation and management was part of it.)

I went there, too! I was a Psychology major (Bachelor of Science, 2004). I was a few years ahead of you, Business major! I never run into fellow alums! 😎 Well, if it counts, I WANTED to be a fellow alum, lol. I remember touring the Mary Washington campus and thinking it was so beautiful and collegiate. But I was out of state and I don't think the tuition was feasible or maybe I didn't get it, I can't remember anymore. Back to true crime, the Delphi murders came back with a guilty verdict. I have a tough time watching this one, the way those little girls were out there playing on that bridge at a supremely unlucky moment makes me so sad, the video is chilling. But I also find all of the varying theories about it so confusing and it muddies the waters. I'll have to read more about what the conviction was based on and I really wish they had the kind of conviction where the killer tells his story. Because this wasn't robbery, it was sexual assault, it was just murder and why? Not that the first two would be excusable but at least it's a motive I can recognize.
