I find it amusing now when I leaf through old BSC books to see that all it took for Claudia to be wearing a really cool outfit was suspenders and a shirt that she had painted designs onto.
And since the author made such a point in the early books about how the Pikes had hardly any rules for their kids (they could eat whatever they wanted, I think it even mentioned once how Claire would run around without any clothes on), it didn't really make sense that they were so strict with Mallory's wardrobe. What would've been the big deal with letting her wear a short skirt paired with leggings (another favorite "cool clothes" description)?

Yeah, that was it and it's really bad. Not the best book to reintroduce yourself to the BSC. I should've dug around in my parent's attic for Claudia and the Sad Goodbye instead (which I'm sure is up there).

Don't forget, Claudia would have funky plastic earrings that matched whatever design she had on her shirt.

Yeah, but she made the earrings out of twine and any available trash she had strewn about her rathole of a room.

Or, like, one earring would be a dog, and the other would be a bone. Dibble!

I have a lot of BSC mysteries that I am looking to get rid of, PM me if anyone is interested. I also have some of the UK versions of the Super Specials, The Portrait Collections, etc. Over the past few years I rebuilt the entire collection that I had as a child but now am just out of room and need the space more than the books. I also have Little Sisters- despite how annoying Karen Brewer is I thought they'd be good for future kids. Now I want them gone.

Ummmm, I just learned that Mary Ann's dad and Dawn's mom got a divorced. I stopped reading with the introduction of Abby. Can anybody do a little short summary of what happened since then? Why did the Spiers house burn down, especially?

Wait, what? When the hell did that happen?
I stopped reading right before they hit book 100. I don't know how many books there were after that before they got to the "Friends Forever" spinoff series, but at the end of those books they actually graduated from 8th grade! My friend found the graduation book at the airport in Hawaii. I think I skimmed it, but I don't remember hearing about Sharon and Richard (yeah, I can't believe I remember their names either) divorcing.

Yeah, they got a divorce, Mary Ann's house burned down, she broke up with Logan, Mallory might have been sent to a boarding school.
I think I still have some books too, along with a whole lot of BSC notepads, cardboard book ends, the big books where you can physically open letters, probably an ID card. Ah, those Scholastic book order forms really sucked me in.
