Alex Mack! She even made Bianca Stratford likable! She was cute in the movie, but I could never understand why they set her up with Alan Gray at the end. Dawn would never!

That made me laugh! I guess no one asked Ann why they were just as ham handed with Jessi's race as Dawn's California stereotype. But I might get the prequel next time I haul books from Amazon. I loved the BSC movie so much. But in addition to the completely OOC Dawn romance, I thought the actor playing Alan was kinda hot, so he was all wrong for the part of Alan Gray.

My favorite was Dawn. It's funny to me that she was from Anaheim; I don't really think of granola-crunchy "health nuts" hailing from Anaheim.

Yeah, it always cracked me up because the crunchy aspect of Palo City seemed more to me like Palo Alto or somewhere else in northern California, but Martin really, really wanted to squeeze Disneyland in there, too.

So, I read the prequel. It was okay. I wouldn't recommend buying it, though, especially since it's in hardback. There were a few pages here and there that had a bit of the old BSC feel to it (some of Mary Anne's conversations with her father, Stacey's run-ins with her NY friends, plus it was nice to read about Stacey's introduction to Stoneybrook) but overall it felt a bit...disconnected from the series. For one thing, the girls seemed so much younger than in even the beginning BSC books. Also, some of the writing just seemed a bit weird. Like one of the girls "delicately slithering" out of her blouse to go swimming--does NOT sound like Martin (or any of the ghostwriters, for that matter)--more like a phrase out of a bad trashy romance novel or something.
