I know it seems a leeetle out of place, but the venerable Moldy Tofu told me this is where this thread should go. I really enjoyed reading the old Sims thread (on You Know Where), so please keep it alive!
I have a question. I have the Sims, as well as most of the expansion packs. If I get the Sims 2, will it act as just another expansion pack, or will it be like starting over?

Starting over. Sims University is the first expansion pack for Sims2.

Is Sims 2 available on Playstation 2 or any other video game platform?
Does Sims or Sims 2 work better on Playstation 2 as opposed to PC?
I ask because I have a Mac, and Sims for Mac didn't have as many features -- like furninshings, skins, etc. as Sims for PC. I've come to terms with my periodic addiction for all things Sim, and I plan to spend hundreds of hours this year playing that mother out.
I want to get Sims 2, but wanna maximize the fun. I'm willing to pick up a video game system or a PC in order to do that.
(Btw, Sims 2 for Mac comes out in June. I can't wait that long.)

I really, really want The Sims 2. My computer's slow enough as is, though, and I would like to keep some semblence to having a social life, and not flunk out of high school. So I'll stick with playing The Urbz, although it's really just not as fun. Can we discuss that here, or should there be another thread for it?

As far as I know, Urbz is considered to be part of the Sims family, too, even if it is a bit different from the non-linear PC version, so...

Stupid question, but do cheats for The Sims work in Sims2?
I'd hate to lose my unlimited cash flow by upgrading!

Oh it so sucks that my Mac is not going to be powerful enough to play Sims2. Maybe I, too, will have to pick up a cheap PC instead of a new $1500 Mac or maybe I could just tide myself over by picking up Superstar or Making Magic.
I always seem to be such a yuppie when I play The Sims. I always take care of them and make sure they get ahead financially. I never allow tragedy. I actually freaked out when my first Sims died or were sent to military school.

I totally recommend getting the Sims2. I don't have the university expansion pack yet, but Sims 2 is a lot of fun. I just had a great time yesterday making a house on a mountaintop. Not very playable, but woo, is it pretty to look at.
To the person that asked about the money cheats, yep you can do the same thing in Sims2. The code is different but you can get the same result.
I too am a major yuppie when playing. I can't even let a person become elderly for krike's sake! I will use the elixor of life over and over rather than let somebody age. (Or turn aging off, natch). I don't know what I would do is one of my beloved people died. *wimp*

I have a hard time letting my Sims just live their lives. I spend about 90% of the time cheating money and building a ridiculous house with lots of cool things. When I get the Sims2, I'm going to see if I can have a family earn money legally and only buy them nice things when they can afford it. Wait a second...that's just like real life! Forget that!
What's everyone's favourite type of family? I had kids once, but those little buggers were annoying! I seem to be addicted to putting two guys together and making them fall in love. Then I get all sappy when they spontaneously hug or make out.

I suppose it's pretty telling that I have two favorite kinds of families.
First, there's the bohemian couple who have ten million kids, all artistic and smart, and name them strange things and help them with homework and don't have a tv.
Second, there's the high-powah couple who climb the political/business ladders and rack up creativity points while selling great paintings and publishing best-selling novels.
They all have kick-ass houses, though.
ETA:
For some reason, I can't get my University kids to take their steenkin' finals! They'll go for an hour, then come back and try to pillow fight or hang out. I spent 12 Sim hours trying to get Skyleigh and MaKinnie to go back to their classes, and they'd go for a while, and come back, go for a while, and come back, until they got the Academic Probation phone calls. Is this a bug, or am I missing something obvious?
