I just got the Sims 3 app for my iphone. I've never "done" the Sims before, so this is all new to me. The cost was under $10, which is amazing. (I'm am still stunned by the cries of "fleecing" for any app over 99 cents. I'm still stunned by the fiercely negative comments for FREE APPS! Entitlement issues from iphone user, much?)
Anyway, I downloaded it two days ago and already learned some things. I romanced and married a rich guy I didn't like because he had a big house, then fell in love with my bestest friend. Even after I divorced my selfish humorless husband, best friend wouldn't have anything to do with my advances. I had to make a new Sim, romance my best friend in the new game, and then marry him. The first time I had a chance to change my appearance, I became my original Sim, and killed off the first one.
Ah, if only life were so simple.....

I need some advice about Sims 2. I 'm trying to decide what to get next: Bon Voyage, Free Time or Seasons. I already have Apartment Life, Best of Business, University, Nightlife, and Glamour Life. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

I need some advice about Sims 2. I 'm trying to decide what to get next: Bon Voyage, Free Time or Seasons. I already have Apartment Life, Best of Business, University, Nightlife, and Glamour Life. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I never got Bon Voyage, but I had most of the other expansions. Basically, Free Time adds depth to the interactions and personalities of the characters. Seasons adds depth to the environment that they live in. I really like both, but if you have to chose, ask yourself which you would prefer. Now, Sims 3 people: I have purchased Sims 3 Deluxe. I have been having a hard time getting into it. One problem being that the clothing and makeup and housing options are ugly as hell, or exactly like the ones from Sim 2. Only uglier. It's like, the makers saw that people were creating really cool skins for the series, then figured that they wouldn't bother making fun ones for the game themselves. Incredibly lazy. My question: Is there a way to stop your other characters from aging? I'm the kind of gal that likes to set up a theme neighborhood (Harry Potter, Gossip Girl, dumb celebrities, etc.) and then play the house that suits my mood at the moment. With Sims 3, I am breaking up households, because siblings in their 30s shouldn't be living together with the spouses, and finding that the other household is old and/or dead by the time I am ready to play them. I know how to slow down age for the active family, but I can't seem to stop it from happening in the neighborhood. Very annoying.

In game options, you can uncheck the box for storyline progression (I think that's what it's called). This shouldn't effect the household you're playing, but it stops the rest of the neighborhood from progressing (aging, getting married, having kids) without you.

Ah! Thanks. I wasn't sure what that meant.
Finally! Harry Potter town: Version 3.0, here I come!
Or maybe this time I will make a Misfits town...

Okay, I am bumping this thread to say that after being addicted to Sims 2 like crack, I am over Sims 3. After owning it for like, about a month.
Why? Because the game is so freakin' buggy and crashes my computer all the time. I'm on a new, pimped out MacBook Pro. I shouldn't have to hard reboot when this stupid thing crashes after three minutes of gameplay.
Also, I lost my first Sim when the game randomly placed her on a second-floor awning. She starved to death, because short of moving the family out and back in (which I had already done earlier because of ANOTHER stupid glitch where my Sims couldn't use their stove-- there was nothing in it, and it couldn't it be deleted).
Oh, and in order to get my Sims to be attracted to one another, they have to spend 8+ hours a day talking. Even if they are flirtatious/have flirty social skills. And even though I turned story progression off, neighbor Sims keep aging and dying. Half the time the person is dead or old before these sad programs get the opportunity to have their first kiss.
Also, my Sims have a glitchy tendency to pick up their babies, walk to the far corner of the lot, and leave them there. It would be funny if it wasn't so frustrating. Gah!

that reminds me of my vampire baby taking the elevator down to street level and sitting on the sidewalk in the sun. All.The.Time. The vamp mom never took care of her even when I tried again, adjusting her character traits. Frustrating!

I've bought all the Sims3 expansion sets so far. For some reason I get the most happiness out of fake gardening with my fake family in my fake mansion... go figure. I haven't figured out the pet thing yet, mostly because I'm afraid I'll have to reduce my family size. That wouldn't normally be a problem, but I hate to see family members I've kicked out of the house get old and die before my kept family does. I keep them on Epic lifespan and make them rich immediately, of course.

I have started playing Sims 3 again after a long hiatus. It is just as fun and addictive as I remembered! Sims 4 comes out in September, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how good it is.
