Wait a sec...what IS the truth, exactly?

Well, nobody knows what the truth is. But we know what the truth isn't, because the whole "we ran out fo money because you didn't buy enough OODT and now we have to shut the forums down because of this" just, on the face of it, doesn't make sense. If they were running out of $, they should have let the forum posters know, in bold, easy-to-understand language, and they should have made sure we heard them (i.e. post it at the top of the each thread as a sticky, for eg.). They did not let us know, at least not after when I joined. It just - doesn't follow. If you're running out of $ and need more *and you actually want to keep the enterprise going* (that's they key point), you have to let the people who can give it to you know about it! If you don't let them know about it, and if you spring it on them out of the blue, some of them are going to suspect you're full of shit.

I would like to know the actual truth. As I've said before, I suspect that they just got bored with/tired of running it and it wasn't generating enough revenue to justify the work, but it would be nice to know the truth. Anyone friends with any of them IRL?

Back at FT, I had a poster INTENTIONALLY attacking me. I even asked him to stop and asked him, "Why are you doing this?" and he replied "Because you haven't proven anything to me." And when I reported it in the Troll Patrol, *I* got banned (with the message "Nothing good ever happens to a squeaky wheel" from Wing).

I must have been posting in threads that didn't inspire people to attack. I never saw any flaming and had some nice interactions with people... except for the one time I asked a question in the Christina Aguilera thread. I asked if anyone knew what colour her eyes REALLY were... which got her fans so infuriated, the thread got locked for a week.

I made a point of avoiding the threads that contained fans who were a bit too zealous. It wasn't worth the aggravation.

My banning story? I made my 100th post in an Oscars thread that was on the front page of the television forum about an hour after the Oscars had ended. Apparently there was another Oscar thread several pages back from the front page that was closed and had warnings in it from Wing not to post in it until the Oscars were over. Yeah, for obvious reasons I didn't see that warning, posted in the dubious thread, and was banned along with everyone else who had posted in that there. So much for key grip.
A year later I had reregistered, and was smacked down for starting a post with "Errrr..." which was part of a snarky reaction to a posted pic of Pamela Anderson that everyone on the thread was talking shit about. According to Wing, I was being hostile. Eh.
Of the content, when Fametracker was good I though the FameAudit was a pretty spot-on... as well as Two Stars, One Slot. But the content really couldn't come anywhere close the entertainment and insight of some of the posts in the fourms.

ETA-- Ha! Bagatelle, I remember when that happened! The Christina Aguilera board could be fun... but when that eye-freak out thing happened? I just sort of wandered off...

Would someone please tell me what OODT is?

I remember the "no-sigs" rule at all of her boards, and how they always made an exception for the one guy, Tonail Assasin or whatever. That was weird.

One of the fun things I've noticed about other boards is the mod attitude towards flames against them. At the Straight Dope boards, for example, they once had a running contest to see WHICH mod had the most threads in our flame section (Called the BBQ Pit, a thread there is called a "Pitting." The mods tallied up their Pittings, how many times they were called a Nazi, or a commie, etc. It was great.)

I think it's best if we contain our posts to the content of FT and the people who run it. Since a lot of FT posters post here I don't want people snarking on them in this thread and making them feel uncomfortable. If they begin acting up here, we'll deal with them, but we've stated before that the sins of ye olde syte that shall not be named will not be used againt posters here.

I'd prefer if you focussed the discussion mainly on the site as it is now. I'd like to avoid a rehashing of negative feelings you had towards the moderators or the bitterness you still feel over receiving a warning for forgetting to close a tag.
