Oh, for god's sake. Dennis Hopper vs. Unicycles. Just when I thought it was starting to get a little better lately.
(Well, who knows. Maybe it was funny. But I couldn't bring myself to even read it.)

Hey blandisoutthere: You asked Yes that was happening to me the last few weeks and I was beginning to take it personally (hee!) I always got the feeling the mods were looking over my shoulder - and if I posted something that wasn't hip or cool or intelligent they wouldn't allow me to register the next time. I wanted to say hey do you realize who I am/know? But I never did. I quit visiting b/c it was making me paranoid (looks over shoulder scurries out of room).

Well, I just went there and there's a big fat banner ad across the top. And a popup to boot. Hypocrites.

Did you click on the banner, Tofu?
Also, did anybody else get an annoying email from Glarkware about trying to offload a bunch of their crappy t-shirts for about $9? You know, the 'Paris Has Your Number' and a bunch of other flash-in-the-pan ones?

Damn! I'll run another check on my system. So not only is FT running ads of the banner (not Glarkware, but actual banner) and popup, they're going the spyware route to boot. Absolutely disgusting.

Moderating us for free? What, playing with your little online friends by inflating their egos due to your banning wasn't payment enough? Next she'll be playing the violin and getting on the cross about Glarkware's inability to sell their shitty shirts.

The way Frau Chun moderated that place was something else. I was a long-time lurker, and registered solely to voice what I knew would be a short-lived complaint about her draconian methods. (I was dm, if anyone remembers my couple of posts there.)
As for the business model: they had a little gold mine on their hands. A fanatical following with LOTS of people willing to pay a reasonable price for forum membership. They could have easily had a thousand paying members at $40/year, and then done biz on banner ads and Google Adwords.
They are either making too much money from their writing, or they aren't very web biz-savvy.
The one rule that absolutely killed me was "no talking about the board on the board." So no one could voice a concern, make a public criticism, nothing. Man, that chick would have fit in nicely helping to run Oceania.
