I just checked this site out for the first time in many weeks. LAME!!!!!!!! What the hell happened? It's not even minorly entertaining anymore. Has it always been this bad?

No, it used to be very funny and witty. I'm not saying that MFF or Wing stole ideas from the FT boards. But it's much easier to be funny and witty and clever when you've got a core group of funny and witty and clever people around you to bounce ideas off of.

They just don't do what they're best at that much anymore-analysis and dissection of the famous and their fame. When they write thoughtful dissertations on certain aspects of fame, like the recent Cruise meltdown essay Wing wrote, their stuff is still a pleasure to read. Their "creative" exercises, like "Sela Ward's bad decisions" or "Other flavors of celebrity ice cream" or whatever, not so much. And yeah, "Celebrity vs. Thing" is lame. Just tell us you like Steve Carell.

FT got a shout-out in this month's Radar Magazine (the one with CTC on the cover) -- the letters page has a sidebar with bunch of comments from the media about the magazine's (re?)launch. Taken from Wing Chun's May 20th article, is says "Like Vanity Fair if it had shorter articles and columnists who were less pleased with themselves." Why is FT taking such long vacations of late? They're off this week until the 6th and had a huge break less than a month or two ago. Because they're creatively tapped out, perhaps? The only recent article that cracked me up was Eva Longoria's T-Shirts mainly for the priceless "Open A Movie? Ewan McGregor Couldn't Open A Door."

I've always wondered why the Bush twins were never allowed to be a topic. Why Princes Harry and William, but not the Bush daughters?

I can kind of understand why the Bush twins couldn't have a thread. It would probably have turned into discussion about W and it would be a political free-for-all. Best just to cut it off early.

IIRC, Wing regretted having any royalty threads at all and did seriously consider closing down the William and Harry threads.

And I think that is why this place was created. So thanks, Wing.
