I'm confused, I thought Luciana's last name was Barroso but today I heard her name more once as Luciana Bozan ... I read at People.com that Bozan is her maiden name, Barroso being her first husband's name. And let me add that I've always liked MD. He really seems like a genuine guy, whose not into the whole Hollywood fame game. In this day and age, that is just so refreshing.

Yep, and he sealed the deal for me as Jason Bourne. Same here. I really liked him (and Ben for that matter) in Good Will Hunting, but The Bourne Identity really got me.

I like him because he is not a famewhore. I remember once, before he even started dating Luciana, that his advice to other celebs was bascially, "if you don't want to be in the spotlight all the time, quit complaining and just date someone normal instead of some other big star diva like yourself." Not in those exact words, but that type of thing. And then he actually followed his own advice! Imagine, a celeb who talks the talk and walks the walk! So, good for him.
As for the "Luciana won the lottery" thing, I'm not sure what's offensive about that. It doesn't mean she only married him for his money, it just means she was lucky enough to find someone she loves who can also take good care of her.

But if that's ALL that was meant by that then why just her? Why don't I see that same thought expressed everytime a non-celebrity marries a celebrity? Hell, I don't even see this attitude expressed everytime a celebrity gets involved with a so-called non-professional. Stars marry nannies (Robin Williams), personal assistants (Woody Harrelson, Christian Bale), college students (Billy Joel), waitresses (Nicholas Cage), etc. without the "Gee! She really lucked out!" attitude expressed. I honestly think there's a touch of racism AND classism being expressed. What's interesting to me is that I don't think alot of the people expressing that attitude generally even hold racist or classist viewpoints. It's just that the stereotype of the hispanic woman as helpless working class maid (for example) is pretty deeply ingrained in many people.

Actually, Luciana is Italian. Although I think it's because she's dark skinned adn automatically thought of as a minority so she has "won the lottery" according to some people in the media.

tversky I think you are right. I also think it's because she has a child from a previous relationship/marriage so everyone thinks of the struggling single mom snatched from the drudgery of waitressing.
Anyway, good for them. I have to say that I respect them getting married before the child is born instead of waiting around so the child can be in the ceremony like some celeb couples (I am looking at you CTC) which I think is stupid.

Just heard this news this morning. How fantastic for them both. They seem like a lovely couple, they actually had a lengthy, non-celeb type courtship... The kind where you can believe they truly got to know each other. And even while I read about their vacations in the tabloids, it was never overkill... which to me, proves celebs DO have control over what is presented in the media. Matt is a doll. And as Bourne, he's hot as a ghetto radiator in a tank top. Congrats to them both.

I even remember that when he was dating/living with Winona Ryder, I would wonder if they were still together because I hardly heard anything about them or saw them. So, even when he does date another celeb, he manages to keep it low key. Which, to me, gives credence to the rumors that he broke up with Minnie Driver because he hated that either she or her publicist would alert the media to when and where they'd be going out.
Back to Winona Ryder: knowing what we all know now about her, the Matt and Winona pairing still baffles me.

Bklynred, your avatar is smoke'n.
Groovethang I wonder the same thing! I really scratch my head at the Uber crazy evil **** that is Winona with down to earth Damon.
And Minnie Driver calling the press? absolutely, that is so her. She's a famewhore that can't seem to get anyone interested.
I read this comment on What Would Tyler Durden Do and it sums it up for me:
"Hollywood is pretty much like the cities in the bible where God decides there's no hope and kills everyone, but almost without exception, the people who succeed based on genuine talent are friendly, hard working and down to earth. And I think getting married to your long time girlfriend who was a bartender by a justice of the peace qualifies as down to earth."

I beg to differ. Look at page one of the Nicolas Cage thread re: his waitress-turned-wife. "She really hit the jackpot". And I know similar things have been said about Angelina Jolie's children and of course Kevin Federline. All it means is that regular people with little or no money suddenly became rich. It doesn't necessarily have to cast aspersons on their character. Matt Damon's wife seems perfectly nice and they seem to have a genuine relationship, and I don't think Angelina Jolie's babies are golddiggers either. Does everything have to be interpreted as offensive?
