Maybe because he knows that he has a green card now and he can't be deported back to Jamaica? Because homophobia is very, very real and very, very dangerous in Jamaica. I'm not defending his deception but I can understand his fear if he thought that he'd be back in Kingston again.

jaghetersimon, do you think his notoriety in America could put his family in danger back home?

jaghetersimon, do you think his notoriety in America could put his family in danger back home? No. But I can almost guarantee you that his family is mortified beyond comprehension. Just to point out that homophobia in Jamaica is not the sort whereby Jonathan could expect to be killed and strung up on a barbed wire fence. JAM Homophobia is a lot less violent than that, despite what the media makes it out to be. Surely, as an "out" homosexual he would be a target for jokes, verbal abuse, scorn, etc... things that would make his life extremely difficult IF HE LIVED THERE PERMANENTLY. Frankly he stands a better chance of being a victim of the "regular" random Jamaican violence than a specific target of homophobic hatred.

From the article linked above: OWIE OUCH OUCH! I wonder if she would consider it "attempted murder" if she caught him just cheating with other women. He played her and he played her good and she has every right to be bitter- but the borderline homophobic tone of all this is really just uncalled for.

Newsflash Terry - heterosexual people can spread STDs too! I'm guessing that she's mega-hurt that her husband has come out as gay - and probably is humiliated to think that a relationship she treasured so much that she turned it into a book was perhaps just a charade - and hence she has become Miss Homophobe 2006. But really, if he had cheated with a woman the potential for the spread of disease and the emotional hurt would have been just as great. At this point, I don't understand why she continues to be so publicly angry. The only thing she is accomplishing by going on and on about his betrayal is to make all the sordid details even more infamous... she needs to move on with her life. Easy to say, I know, but she seems to be heading into crazy harpy land.

She's a homophobic snatch. I don't feel sorry for her anymore-she's just too fucking hateful.
