I know have gone on and on about how great she was on the "Miss Congeniality" set, but damn! I want to be just like her when I grow up. Complete with glossy hair. Sorry, just watched the clip with her and Betty White.

God. I loved "Hope Floats" so much that I had one of the songs from it as the first dance in my wedding. One thing, though. I distinctively remember reading an interview with Sandy where (I think after Premonition?) she said she wasn't going to do anymore rom-coms. Aaaand here comes "The Proposal." MmHmm! Wonder how that movie's gonna end. (I'm glad she's back, though. I love her.)

Her choices in films are a lot like Jennifer Garner's - safe, cute, with the occasional thriller/action flick. JG did Juno and Sandy did Crash, but mostly they don't seem terribly interested in stretching their skills. But she seems really comfortable with who she is and the choices she's made, and I give her a lot of kudos for that.
By the way, hand care is not at all unheard of for actresses. Chemical peels are an easy way to keep your hands looking as young as your face, and plenty of actresses get them, trust. Necks are a big focus, too, b/c they are also a giveaway.
Remember how fun Speed was? I need to rent that again.

Actually, when she was promoting "Two Weeks Notice" she stated that it would be her last rom-com for the foreseable future. TWN was released in 2002, so I guess a seven-year break was long enough for her to stretch her wings while starring in other types of films.

I think Sandy would love to make non-Rom Com movies, but there just aren't a whole lot of those types of movies out there for women. And I would guess Sandy would be pretty far down the list of actresses to get offered a role in a non-Rom Com movie. She's competing against Nicole, Angelina, Julia, Kate, Cate, and Diane for roles. She just isn't going to get those offers. She is in a similar situation as Meg Ryan was during the '90s.

I think she can act, but I think she has a naturally light presence which she brings to all of her roles and that could either be a good thing or a bad thing.
When she played an alcoholic in 28 Days, she seemed to give the film a certain lightness that might not have been there if another actress had been in the role, but I wasn't sure if that lightness was actually supposed to be there. I'm not sure if that lightness owes to her inherent likeability, though. She's a very likeable presence, but at the same time I couldn't tell if she was good or not in the role of a self-centered alcoholic because of the seeming light touch she has.

I think the reason why both Bullock and Garner have stayed away from stretching their skills beyond romcoms is that they've probably seen Meg Ryan's attempts at a post romcom-career. People didn't want to see her in other roles and I bet most people wouldn't want to see those two in Winslet/Blanchett-type of roles

I could see her taking on some roles that would give her more critical recognition without pulling her out of her safety zone, like the part Renee Zellweger played in "Cold Mountain". I think she did a good job in "Infamous" as well as "Lover Boy". Playing a part in an ensemble would be a good way of easing her into non-romcom roles I think.

Her part in Crash was interesting, not showy and definitely not likeable, but I thought she was good in it, it would be good to see her do something like that again. ETA Just to make it clear I liked what SB did with the role, not the movie itself, which I'm not praising at all.

I thought she did a good job in Crash, and that's really saying something because I HAAAAAATTTEEE that movie. I definitely agree that she would do well as part of an ensemble in a non-romcom or indie kinda movie.
