All the talk about Morelli and Ranger from the Stephanie Plum mysteries by Janet Evanovich in the Mysteries/Thrillers thread reminded me of a thread that I think was over on FT: your ideas for "fantasy casting" of your favourite (or less favourite) literary characters.
So on that note:
Morelli: Christopher Meloni (I can just seem him rocking the navy blue t-shirt and jeans with the badge on his waist **dreamy sigh**) Ranger: Benjamin Bratt (Latino, not too tall, and really handsome)

Shorty Spice, GET OUT OF MY HEAD! Those are the EXACT people I've thought of while reading those books.

In Margaret Atwood's Robber Bride, I always pictured Meryl Streep as Zenia, but I'd also love to see Julianne Moore in that role - she would be brilliant.

For Morelli, I always picture a young, bearded Justin Deas (early Tom Hughes on As the World Turns, later Keith on Santa Barbara). I'm trying to find an image.
For Ranger, I always envision someone looking like Sam Elliott, but with tanner skin and no facial hair. But that same long, lean body.

Mark Ruffalo would make a great Morelli for me. As for Ranger, I'm not sure. The character, as described, doesn't seem realistic at all. If you use an actor who looks exactly like Janet describes Ranger, it would make more sense in our stereotypical universe for him to be gay. I keep picturing Ranger as this specimen of human perfection, and you need a little imperfection to be that hot. Too much perfection makes you a Ken doll.
What about Stephanie herself? Sandra Bullock is the first actress that pops into my head. She's sexy enough to explain why these two supposedly hot guys are attracted to Stephanie, and she has the acting chops to pull off all the comic parts of the books.

I agree with Sandra Bullock as Stephanie, but I think Marissa Tomei could also pull it off. I'm not sure who I'd like to see as Ranger and Morelli - to be honest I could never really see Christopher Meloni as Morelli, but I could go with Benjamin Bratt or even (a younger) Lou Diamond Phillips as Ranger. I did think Ranger was pretty bulky though, as opposed to lean, mean Morelli.

Those are all good picks for Ranger, Morelli and Stephani.
I have thought Johnny Depp with his long dark hair in a pony tail with the muscles he had as Donnie Brasco would be a good Ranger.
Reese Witherspoon would be a good Stephanie with her brunette hair.
I can only imagine Estelle Getty as Grandma Mazur.

A lot of Evanovich fans see The Rock as Ranger.

I hope this belongs in this thread, since the thread is what got me thinking about this. Back in high school, I was a fan of Jackie Collins' book Chances; I thought Lucky was a great character. So, I was interested when I heard they were making it into a movie and wondered who would be cast as Lucky. And then? They cast that wishy-washy Jenny from All My Children!?? Seriously? So, I would think about who I thought would be a better choice and I could never come up with anything.
Now, thinking about it for a few minutes, I suppose that woman Sofia Milos would fit the bill, especially after seeing her as a lady mob boss on the Sopranos. I can't think of anyone else, though.
