I've read Cleolinda's recaps and that's enough for me. Despite her fronting like she hates them, Dwan keeps trying to assign them for book club and I tell her NO WAY.

Cleolinda actually calls out the creepier parts of Edward & Co., so I say read them instead of the Wiki recaps.
(Seriously, I will never ever be able to get over Edward standing in a corner and watching Bella sleep. And let's not forget the oil can too...)

You are so banned, young man. This series is one of the most contentious points of argument in the KiddieLit world. It's "love it!!1!" or "HATE it."

That doesn't surprise me - remind me to link you to the really really good Jezebel and Salon deconstructions of the series.
Having not read either, I am still amused that some Twihards argue that the series is sooooo much more "mature" than HP.

I'm going to copyright my glow-in-the-dark mermaid idea, 'cause you know that bitch would steal it. Don't forget to draw a picture, since that's how you fully copywrite a character.

I was scared by a colleague who I really respect who included a Facebook thingie proclaiming "I want an Edward!" Every woman needs a creepy stalker who thinks she's incompetent, Dwan. And of course, every woman wants a man who thinks for them. To the point where he dictates the people she can be friends with. (I'm never, ever going to get over that. Disabling her car so she can't go see Jacob? Ergggh.)

BUT HE ONLY DOES IT BECAUSE HE LOOOOOOVES HER SO MUCH!1!
That shit makes me stabby. Several of my friends have been after me to read SM for the snark, but I just don't think I can. At least, not yet.

I feel you on that, Dwan. It's easy to laugh about the stupidity of SMeyer's writing, when you're old enough and wise enough to know that Edward/Bella => most. messed up. relationship. ever.
It's also easy to laugh at the REALLY crazy TwiMoms who love Edward and Bella, because eh. They're old enough so that it doesn't really matter if they're mooning over a fictional creation. If it brings them joy, then fine.
However, then you start thinking about all the tweens who are being conditioned to think that Edward's abusive behavior is romantic, and that's when you want to start raging at SMeyer.
