I tried. I couldn't get past the phrase "cheeseburger of pain." Seriously. Stephenie Meyer used the phrase cheeseburger of pain. I'd hate her so much if I wasn't trying to use that phrase into every conversation I have from this point forward. Awesome ;D ;D ;D "Here's another five bucks going down the drain For some fries and a shake that me go insane I guess I ought to be stressed about my weight gain But it's my destiny to eat cheeseburger of pain!" It doesn't precisely scan, but I bet Meyer can get Sting and McDonald's on board in no time!

Emo Kitteh Can Haz Cheezeburger Of Pain? According to Cleolinda's Twitter, Meyer at one point says that Edward has "dark red hair." - which is not the hair color he had in the previous four Twilight books, nor in Midnight Sun. FAIL! ETA: Oh, awesome, she's already taken the bullet and recapped it for us. I am so glad to have never read a Twilight book but love her recaps.

I love Cleolinda's recaps so much better than the actual Twilight series.

What's with Stephanie and domestic abuse? The wolf woman stayed with her fiancé after he ripped half her face off and there are constant warnings from Jacob, "Don't get me mad..." Like a woman can't challenge or have an argument with someone she's in a relationship with because he'll lash out and physically harm her. She has to tiptoe around and make nice or else the big bad wolf will hurt her and it'll be her fault. I'm hating Meyer more and more. In her short story Hell on Earth, she also featured a girl who'd previously had an abusive boyfriend. The villain of the story tried to make the girl go back to her ex but she resisted. The thing is, the supernatural/horror romance genre is filled with these types of relationships and always has been. That's pretty much the point - you read them for the cathartic thrills. So I don't know if Meyer has a thing for abusive relationships, or she's just obeying the tenets of the genre. Of course, that could be what draws her to the genre in the first place and like most authors, she's working out her issues/fantasies in her writing.

If it's understood that the characters are damaged and should not be emulated I can give it a pass (I actually enjoy a lot of supernatural/horror/dark romance), but when she makes comments that the books are informed by her Mormon values and she wishes the "heroes" be seen as positive and show restraint by not having premarital sex, I have to point out that it doesn't make her Mormon values look good to have the protagonists promote domestic abuse, pedophilia, and suicide.
If she had said (if she felt she needed to make a comment at all), "They're sick puppies! They need therapy!" Then all would be fine.
I'd rather my hypothetical teenage kids have sex than get beaten to a pulp or threaten to pitch themselves off a cliff because of a broken heart.

I applaud their bravery and will donate to their aspirin, scotch or therapy bills.

I'm so traumatized. My sister, the Ph.D, just confessed to me that she read and loved the first three Twilight books. Oh, and that reading them "made (her) life good again." ACK. I can't believe it.
Now, however, she's trying to read Breaking Dawn, and told me she thinks it's so awful that she probably won't even finish it. This, apparently, really bummed her out. I sent her to Cleolinda's page for consolation. Still...she. is. a. Ph.D. And loved SM's dribble. Traumatized.
