Stephenie's writing a Twilight spin-off. LinkI have no memory of this character at all. I'm ashamed to say I immediately knew who this character was from the title alone. Yeah, I'll turn in my Greecie card. I know everyone talks about how unhealthy the relationships were in Twilight, but what about The Host? The protagonist is beaten by her (ex)boyfriend on multiple occasions because he thinks she's been completely taken over by the alien parasite. Yet she's still determined to be with him and justifies the beatings as the ex's way of showing disdain for the creatures. There's also a subplot where a parasite is kidnapped against her will, because some guy is in love with her past-human self. Yet, it works out in the end since he falls in love with the parasite too! And surprise, surprise - the book's been optioned for a movie.

I leafed through this in the grocery store the other day--looks pretty lightweight. Appears to focus on how tough it was for Meyer to writer the Twilight books while juggling the demands of marriage/motherhood.

Yeah, I'll turn in my Greecie card. I know everyone talks about how unhealthy the realtionships were in Twilight, but what about The Host? The protagonist actually gets beaten by her (ex)boyfriend on multiple occasions because he thinks she's been completely taken over by the alien parasite. Yet, she's still determined to be with him and fawns over him. The beatings are justified because it's supposedly the ex's way of showing disdain for the creatures. There's also a subplot where a parasite is kidnapped against her will, because some guy is in love with her past-human self. Yet, it works out in the end since he falls in love with the parasite too! And surprise, surprise - the book's been optioned for a movie. I haven't read The Host, and after reading your review I don't think I will!

But you know you want to read it for the nonexistent plot! All 500 pages of non-plot! (Or would it be called an anti-plot at this point?) Actually, I would say read the prologue. It's actually written well. I don't know if it's because it's in third-person so it cuts down on the whining, or of it's because she secretly hired someone else to write it for her.

What's with Stephanie and domestic abuse? The wolf woman stayed with her fiancé after he ripped half her face off and there are constant warnings from Jacob, "Don't get me mad..." Like a woman can't challenge or have an argument with someone she's in a relationship with because he'll lash out and physically harm her. She has to tiptoe around and make nice or else the big bad wolf will hurt her and it'll be her fault.
I'm hating Meyer more and more.

Has anyone else read the Bree Tanner novella? It's available free online here. I think Stephenie's trying to get down with the kids, it's full of teenspeak in an eye-rolly kind of way. I'm glad I didn't buy it, anyway.

I tried. I couldn't get past the phrase "cheeseburger of pain." Seriously. Stephenie Meyer used the phrase cheeseburger of pain.
I'd hate her so much if I wasn't trying to use that phrase into every conversation I have from this point forward. Awesome
