Would anyone be able to tell me how to cancel an echeck PayPal payment? I bought something but forgot to update my bankcard information after I received a new card in the mail and the seller isn't accepting my echeck. But after following PayPal's instructions, there is no "cancel" option in the Action column and I'm getting irritated. Bah!

You need to get the seller to refund it, I think, and then resend payment as a CC payment or instant transfer. I did that once by mistake and I had to get the seller's help to sort it all out. Just don't resend payment until they've refunded you. The money won't come back to you right away, but you don't want to end up sending it to them twice without the refund being started.

I'm not sure the diatribes really help -- I read one yesterday that simply didn't make sense. There were holes in her story -- it would have been better to just describe the item and shut up.

Alright Greecies, hopefully you guys can help me with my Ebay dilemma. I sold an Amazon Gift certificate and the buyer paid immediately so I emailed him the codes through Ebay's contact email. He emailed me and said that the codes work and left me positive feedback. Today I receive an email from paypal saying they reversed the amount he paid me and are investigating the transaction. Has anyone been in this kind of situation? I wonder how long they are going to investigate for? Should I contact the buyer and be like Wth? I am really irritated with this and feel like I got cheated. Anywhoo, I guess I need support as well as advice on how to proceed.

Sympathy, FirstAid. And...a warning. Paypal is the definition of faceless company that often does random shit for no identifiable reason. I would contact the seller and I would contact Paypal to request more info from both. Just don't expect Paypal to be helpful in the least. They might be (I hope they are) but there's a reason even people who use Paypal tend to hate them. I hope it wasn't a large sum of money.

I tried to get a refund before (I bought a shirt that was supposed to be "pewter" - that's a gray, right? - and it showed up and was tan, I can't wear TAN!) and I had to open a "dispute" with Paypal, blah blah BLAH. They didn't just automatically refund my money or "reverse" it. They had to get both sides of the story before anything happened and on and on. I would send Paypal proof of the satisfactory information the bidder left you. I would ask the eBayer what the hell is going on. I would throw a fit. Only because that would piss off to hell and back. What a jerk.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I emailed the buyer and said if he doesn't clear it up on his side, I will leave him negative feedback. His previous purchases have all been amazon gift certificates as well, and he has 100% positive feedback. Anyway, I guess I have to wait it out for a little bit and see what paypal does. It's just times like this, that the whole ebay experience disheartens me. I feel like I have to impose all these buyer prerequisites before I can sell an item to them. Anywhoo, thanks guys for letting me vent.

Wait wait wait! The buyer doesn't necessarily have anything to do with this. Paypal can (and often do) flag transactions all on their own, so don't assume (at this point) that the buyer is an ass. I don't know it offhand but if you Google, Paypal *does* have a customer service phone number, although they don't want anyone to know it. I would contact them ASAP.

Yeah, I use the Paypal phone line in the most dire emergencies. You'll have to wait on hold for an hour or so (not kidding), but the call center is staffed by live people, so it's worth it if you have no other recourse.

Question: I sold some bookends to a buyer in Japan. They are ceramic.
They finally arrived 6 weeks later!! and were of course, slightly broken.
I sent via expedited parcel and they offer $100 insurance but not on ceramics or breakables. So I'm out of luck there.
I packaged the item well, so it should have survived. Who's responsible here? Do I have to give a refund? partial refund? I'm willing to offer some, but not all. Afterall, I'm not at fault either.
ETA: I just withdrew $200 from paypal to transfer to my bank acct in Canada. It says "No Fees", but their exchange rate is 6.5%?? Last I checked our dollar was actually worth more? wtf??
