Hey guys,
I'm buying my mom a Dell desktop. Can anyone recommend a particular type? I'm on a Dell Inspiron laptop & the desktop equivalent looks fine to me. She may do some stationery or need low-mid level graphics but is by no means a graphics artist. There are about four we're deciding between, the biggest difference (besides price) is that two are 4GB & two are 6GB. Here's the link, I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!
Dell desktops?
ETA: laptops aren't an option & she wants to stick with Dell.

So my husband bought me an HP TouchPad since they were dirt cheap after HP decided to axe the OS and the TouchPad itself. The idea behind this madness was so that we could eventually install the Android OS on it, which we did today. Squee! Before, I just used it to check email and surf the Web (the app store was craptastic); now, I can do pretty much anything that hubby can do on his iPad (obviously, taking into account the differences between the Apple and Android OSes). Naturally, the first two apps I downloaded? Words with Friends and Hanging with Friends, so that I can now play them on a bigger screen (before, I played on my iPhone). I love that my husband's friends are all tech geeks.

What is Hanging with Friends? I have not seen that.
My husband has been obsessed with Angry Birds: Ham-o-Ween. He loves that new bird.

I won a first-generation iPad a couple of weeks ago, and the first things I downloaded were Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies. *iPathetic*

Hanging with Friends is sort of like "Hangman," but not really. It's really fun. You are given letters to build a word (with each letter being worth a certain number of points, just like Scrabble/Words with Friends). Getting more points can earn you lifelines when it's your turn to guess your opponent's word. Anyway, you create a word with the letters you're given, then you can "watch" (not in real time, but it's still fun) your opponent guess letters and see if they get the word right. Then it's your turn, and they play a word for you to guess.
I'm making it sound more complicated than it is. Hubby was urging me to play and I thought, "That's all I need, one more word game to play," but it's a lot of fun. I'm being told there is also an awesome Family Feud game on the iPad/iPhone (not on Android), but I am trying to resist.
I also like to play 7 Little Words, where you get clues and word fragments to guess words of varying lengths up to 7 letters. Also sounds boring, but also a lot of fun. I'm a geek.
Heh. No, if I didn't suck at Angry Birds, that would have been one of my downloads too. I am just no damn good at it.

Could I ask a Facebook question in here?
I just set my teen up with an account. She's now trying to find pages to "like" and we've come upon a frustrating situation. After clicking "like," she is asked to type in words shown in order to confirm it's not spam. In the box, it also says you can get rid of this function by verifying your account. Then it asks for her mobile number so it can text her the confirmation code.
This seems fishy for one reason especially. There is no other option. Not everyone is going to have a mobile phone. If it were legit, there would be another option such as email or something.
How do we get past this?

I've liked tons of stuff on Facebook and all I've ever had to do was click the big blue "like" button. If they are asking for codes and mobile numbers, that smells like a scam to me. I'm not sure how she's searching for things, but I'd advise you to tell her to only use the FB search box to search within FB for things, that is what I do and I haven't had a problem, unless I click on the wrong thing and am redirected to a site outside of FB, which it is what I think may be happening in your case. I hope that this helps and makes sense.

You can also defrag your hard drive to get more space. When I tried this, the computer told me I needed 14% space to do defragmentation safely, and when I'd removed a large amount of files to get to that percentage, the analysis said there was no need for defragmentation. Which was kinda odd. But thanks for all the tips! I have a little more space now. For two days now, my security program has stopped me from going to ONTD or my LiveJournal Friends page with a warning that they're harmful sites. I was able to go to LJ's main page without received the warning. I wonder what that's about. ONTD has ads, but my Friends page doesn't.

I've noticed that, while I have around a thousand songs on my ipod (nano), only around 200 regularly come up in shuffle. I listen to my ipod all the time, almost always on shuffle, and there are tons of songs that never come up, a ton of songs that come up sometimes, and a minority of songs that come up constantly (like two of three times in one commute, guaranteed to come up almost every single time). I've tested iTunes and it does the exact same thing. Any suggestions for how I can make it shuffle all my songs equally? There doesn't seem to be any reason why it plays certain songs so much more frequently than others - they are all ticked and play fine when selected directly.

Hey guys, my mom found a great Dell desktop but I told her next go round she has GOT to upgrade to a laptop...I was dragging that thing around in an Ikea bag (which are apparently indestructible, thank God) back and forth to the store to make sure something wasn't hinky (it wasn't).
My newest question: Can anyone recommend a good RSS reader, or are they equally good? Thanks in advance.
