Can you take a battery out of an iPhone? I know that would void it which I don't really care about, but I was just curious if it was technologically possible. I always thought that would brick it. I'm planning ahead to when I drop my phone in the toilet.

No, with iOS devices you can't remove the battery.

I'm having SO much trouble with google right now.
1) Is there a way to close (or make dormant in some way) my google+ account (which I've never used and have no interest in using, since do you know anyone who uses google+? Yeah, me neither) without it affecting my gmail account?
2) And related to that, is there a way to uninstall apps on google+? I downladed, than uninstalled some apps on my Android and I can't get rid of them on my computer, I'm getting notices for apps I never use and I'm not sure I can even access and it's driving me mental.

My first 2014 tech question: Has anyone ever returned electronics to Amazon for a gift card?
I have, I think, the 2nd gen Kindle, and I'd love a paperwhite (easier on the eyes) but can't afford to buy a new one outright. Except for one minor scratch (on the casing, not the screen), it works perfectly. If there's only a $20-$30 difference, I'd definitely upgrade once I got the gift card. But the hitch is, I have to send in my Kindle and have it evaluated first. Then--as I understand it--a third party would make me an offer & I'd either say yes and use the card toward a paperwhite, or say no & have my original returned to me.
Anyone done this before (doesn't have to be a Kindle, just any electronic)? I have been reading more & am anxious about having my little library storage floating through the mail service. Is this a typical way of doing this, or should I consider another option (what, exactly, I don't know). I remember sending in my Android when I wanted an iPhone & it was very simple; I plugged in the style # and Amazon (or eBay or some similar service) immediately spit out how much they would pay me. I then had x amount of days to mail in my product & I received a paper check very quickly.
Any answers/guidance would be greatly appreciated, thank you! (Where's ratscabies, I feel like he knows techie stuff...)

We've done amazon trade ins for $100s in video games and it worked really well. Shipping was easy, with tracking numbers, and they update the status on your amazon acct. I can definitely understand being nervous about sending a kindle though, do they provide insurance on the shipment, just in case?

Any answers/guidance would be greatly appreciated, thank you! (Where's ratscabies, I feel like he knows techie stuff...) Sorry, this thread just came up as unread on my phone this morning! Techie stuff, maybe. Amazon? Not so much. I haven't bought anything from them in 5 years. We had a bad falling out after they screwed me out of $350 in overdraft fees by breaking one of my orders (used paperbacks) into seperate orders for each book, then automatically billing them to my checking account debit card (I had used that for my previous order a year before, and I was a: unaware they had saved the info, and b: not given the option to choose a method of payment), while I was on unemployment. An order for 20 one-dollar books ended up garnering twenty $38 OD fees at the bank. To their credit, the bank rescinded half of the charges when I plead my case, but it was still about $350. When a weeks unemployment check was $275 or so. After an internal investigation, Amazon, shockingly enough, found they had done nothing wrong. This is not to say I don't have a Kindle, though. Damn them, anyway, but it really is the best version of that modern abomination, the e-reader. I just didn't get it DIRECTLY from Amazon. The first one, I got as a "perk" from my new bank (Hell yeah, I changed banks after the Amazon debacle! This one will dip into my savings to cover overdrafts, the old one wouldn't.) when they cancelled my airline miles program. I left that one in the seat-back pocket on a Delta flight into Chareston, WV. We were driving home from there after the flight from Texas, and I was in a hurry. Delta says they'll send it back to me as soon as they find it... Here is my best advice, now. The two I have now (yes 2; one was supposed to be for TrafficChick) I got from shopgoodwill.com. It's like eBay for Goodwill stores. Most of my giant camera collection has come from this site. The Kindles cost me about $30 apiece. Just be patient, one will show up. Granted, mine are all the 2nd or 3rd generation (keyboard model), but there are good deals to be had on all manner of e-reader. Full disclosure: the wife still shops on Amazon, and has had no problems like mine. She respects my windmill-tilting, but doesn't play along. Which makes me giggle when I think about how long it's been since we ate at Steak'nShake. They screwed her outta $1.37 on our bill once, then corporate responded to her complaint with, "Oh, well, that happens sometimes." Whatever you do, make sure you back up your library to your computer before you send it out into the bad old world!

Does anyone know if there is a way for someone to delete texts from another person's phone? I have a friend with a very crazy stalker ex boyfriend, and somehow all my texts to and from her over a specific period of time have disappeared. I still have texts from 3 or 4 months before they started dating,(I have Nov 2012 texts going up to February 2013, then nothing until September 2013) My phone will delete texts, usually after 14 months or so, and always deletes the oldest first. This hasn't happened with any of my other frequent text contacts, only her and it is freaking me out to think that he may have been able to access my phone.
