Those silica pouches that come in purses, new shoes, etc. are also great for removing moisture. I keep them in a plastic baggie in the linen closet, for which MMS always made fun of me until the day he dropped is iPhone 5 in a puddle. I threw the phone and the half the silica pouches in a sealed container for a day, and voila--good as new.

After I did the rice in a bag thing, I put my ipod on my cable box. The warmth helped dry out any excess moisture.

Fingers crossed that it works for you, Mieren. You might also try throwing some sea salt in there if you wish.

I would, but I don't have sea salt.

Sadly, leaving it in rice for 25 hours didn't help (the bottom speaker works and so does the mcrophone, it's just the earpiece that doesn't work).

Smaller pieces of rock can get into the equipment and cause further damage. Mieren, give it another day or two, I would always tell my users (when I was working with the mobile devices directly) that it could take 24-72 at least.

Does it matter what kind of rice? I have brown long grain or white minute rice on hand. My husband's work cell just went thru a cycle in the washing machine, is it even worth trying or is that wet beyond the point of repair?

I'd give it a try, but it's probably doomed . And I think minute rice would work better than brown.
