Just came here to bitch about the cloud, itunes, iphones, Apple in general. Contacts - they are gone. Where? No idea. The "backup" is useless because it backed up after it deleted all my contacts. Now I'm having to go through email, Facebook, twitter, begging friends to send me their phone numbers. This happened completely randomly - I changed no settings, wasn't syncing or anything like that. I was actually not home when it happened. I was in the middle of texting friends and all of a sudden their names disappeared from my phone. Gone. Hate iTunes and the library and the bullshit ways to "delete" or update or build playlists where you end up with five versions of the same song on the phone, thus taking up valuable space. Hate. ETA: Good God, I don't even have my parents' home number (they've changed it in the past couple years so hadn't memorized it). All but five of my iTunes playlists disappeared under similar circumstances a while back. I tried every trick I could find on every tech blog I know but no dice. Then I called Apple, where the lady (who was actually very nice) said in a very diplomatic and polite way that I was shit out of luck. I had something like 100 playlists so I'm rather annoyed about the whole thing. None of my music got deleted, but still.

Firefox is no longer allowing me to access Facebook. When I try to log in, I get a message that says But I have cookies enabled.
Anyone have a clue as to what I can do to fix this? I haven't had a problem with any other website but Facebook. This just started a few days ago.

I haven't had a problem with any other website but Facebook. This just started a few days ago. I was having problems with Firefox and several websites. Some of them gave me Cookies messages, sometimes there was a lag between when I typed something and when it showed up, but the real killer was how often I had plug-in crashes. They were causing me to have to close out my browser through task manager several times per day. I switched to Google Chrome.

It appears that the battery in my iPhone is an ex-battery. It has gone to meet it's maker.
It's bleedin' demised!
Won't even charge enough to turn on, so I can't back it up.
We were talking about "upgrading" to the iPhone 6 for Christmas, but the one with the smallest capacity would run us $650, and we both want (need) the largest capacity, because we use the CRAP out of our phones. The big ones are well over a grand!
(We need to buy them outright, otherwise we lose our unlimited up to ACTUALLY UNLIMITED data plan,)
So, off to the interwebs to see about a new battery. YouTube videos show it to be a pretty easy process, actually, and I found kits with battery and all tools needed for $6. I ordered 4 kits, so I can do both phones, and have backups on hand.
But what to do until the new batteries arrive? A few more minutes on the Google turned up an iffy hack that allows the SIM card from an iPhone 5 to be used in an iPhone 4. So I dig around my desk drawers, and pull out my old 4. Five minutes of futzing with tape and Sim cards, and I am typing this post on my old iPhone 4!

Ratscabies, I'm using an iPhone 4 with a card that was also futzed similarly to fit it from another phone that takes a larger card. It has been working perfectly well (well, mostly) for about a year. I would like to get a newer phone that can take the newer IoS's and has more memory because I listen to a lot of podcasts and would like to have more than 50 songs on it since it is my primary music-listening device (have no car stereo). I'm actually thinking about going with a Samsung though and ditching Apple entirely. Any love for Samsung out here?

Here! I love my Galaxy s5 and I use it all the time! So far, I haven't come across any apps I want that aren't available, and the camera on it is amazingly good for both video and stills. I have a LOT of apps, and I've had no problems with bandwidth or speed. I have a Pelican case on it (not the most attractive, but I am a klutz), and the phone and case are both still in pristine condition after 10.5 months of use and abuse (my daughter, otoh, has had her iPhone screen replaced twice in the past year). Honestly, I'm trying to think of any problems I've had with this phone after almost a year, and I can think of none.
Please keep in mind, though, that my last phone was a BlackBerry Curve, so the Galaxy was like magic in a box. I really do love it, though.

Another big Samsung Galaxy fan here. HGTV has had hers for 3-4 years and LOVES it; I've had mine for a year. Never had any issues at all. Plus, screw Apple.
