Thanks y'all! I never fully drank the Apple Kool-Aid so I'm glad to hear people like the Samsungs.

I have a 16 gig (wifi only) iPad 2 from 2012. It's running iOS 8.2. Is there a good reason why I should upgrade to 9.1? I don't think I'm having any problems with it, I do clear cookies and data occasionally. I don't do podcasts, or iTunes, or games other than Scrabble & Candy Crush (should I be embarrassed?) I do stream some tv shows. I have been updating my 2 month old iPhone 6, but I'm hesitant to do it to the older iPad from some things I've read.
Thoughts please?

Don't do it. I have the same model as you, and every update I've installed has made it run slower and slower. I don't think the processor can really handle all the new fancy schmancy graphics that well.

Yeah I would wait as long as possible. I updated my iPad and iPhone right away but waiting as long as I could before updating my iPod touch. I use my iPod mainly for music and I knew the new music app was awful. But eventually my iPod starting crashing all the time so I had to update it. They all work okay but pay attention to your iCloud storage if you do update. Something about what they did to the photo app sucked all mine up. I went from having 4 GB's of free space to not enough to do a backup. I was able to switch it back but it was a pain. And I am not paying for cloud storage.
I am seriously considering moving away from Apple once my current devices die. But I have so many apps that I paid for that I can share on all 3 devices. Plus all the cords, speaker docks etc. For sure though I want to get a new music player because between the ugly new redesign and the slowness of iTunes its not worth it. Especially since the sound quality isn't amazing either. Anyone have any suggestion for other good music players? I'd like a little better sound quality and the ability to organize my stuff easily. Does anything like that exist?

Thanks, roisin & bronze! I had to reinstall the system twice after going to iOS 8 because it froze on me, so I was pretty leery. I checked and I have 6.5GB free space - I'd have more if I weren't so bad about deleting email. I have the cloud turned off as far as I know, on both the iPad and iPhone although the girl at the Verizon store said I was already on it when she set up my iPhone. I don't want all my stuff, such as it is, floating around out there any more than it already is.

I have a similar model (wifi+cellular) and just upgraded mine (I hold off until one of my apps stops working - I was on ios6 for a looong time) and it didn't break. It's ever so slightly slower, but only enough to remind me that it's not shiny and new and fancy. So if you have to, it should be OK, but you don't need to. This should be the last major update that it can get.

I have no idea what happened, but my modem stopped working this morning. I called TWC, and they are sending a technician over tomorrow morning (please send good vibes my way that this actually happens!). They think it's a bad wire. It could not have come at a worse time..... I was having difficulties streaming videos, so I went to my router and hit the reset button. Then before I knew it I couldn't even find my network. I followed TWC's instructions - unplug everything. Turn off the computer, re-plug the modem. Wait for all the lights to turn solid, then turn on the router. As soon as I turn on the router, the light goes out on the modem saying I'm connected. It's so frustrating. I really hate not having an internet. I'm completely addicted. I guess I'll read a book tonight. (Hardship I know!)

It happened to me. Those things just aren't made to be on 24/7 without failing. After all it's in the manufacturer'$ be$t intere$t if you buy a new one every 6month$.Hopefully your internet will be better when they bring you the VERY USED new router. (-;

I'm so embarrassed. User error. I hit the 'reset' button and it wiped out my network name. TWC came by this morning and the service guy was actually great. And I learned what happens when I hit the reset button. It does not do what I think it will do.
Alpierce- I bought my modem/router.... so it's still under warranty. I was warned not to rent a TWC modem!

I have an old wireless modem from 2009. I switched to CenturyLink and thus don't need it anymore, they provide the modem. Should I keep it around just in case? Have modems advanced that much since 2009?
