I like to cross-stitch, too, Petals, and I'm not an old lady.
My only problem is what to do with the stuff when I'm finished. I just throw it away because the patterns are always so bad. I should make my own, but that's more work than I'm into. It's kind of like my mom and split pea soup. She loves to make it, hates to eat it. So she makes it and gives it away. I guess that's better than throwing it out.

My hobby is professional wrestling. Not actually doing it, because Im not a fan of falling over, but I go and watch it as often as possible - usually once a month, sometimes more. And in between shows my wrestling-friends and I dissect stroylines and feuds and talk about where things are going and what could happen - its a lot of fun, we're quite wrapped up in a crazy world of wrestling. Im friends with most of our NZ wrestlers so that makes it even more fun. You can see 'my' boys here, its a more enjoyable, more realistic version of the WWE, really. Even though WWE is the 'big leagues' of wrestling, I find it very difficult to enjoy, its just to cheesy-cartoony. Give me two athletic guys beating the crap out of each other for my entertainment anyday.

Wow, the knitters, quilters (Bossy! So beautiful!!!), and artists on here are fantastic!
I'm a beader. I make jewelry and ornaments. Crystals are my favorite, I am a fool for anything sparkly. I also adore pearls. I've also bought some old jewelry lots off of ebay and have gotten a couple of real treasure troves of old jewelry. A lot of it wasn't good for using as is, but it was great to take apart to make other stuff with. A hideous necklace can be taken apart and used to make a great Christmas ornament!
I started out doing it just for fun and to make gifts for family and close friends but last year I showed some of my things to a few people and they asked to buy some pieces, so that was great. It is hard to part with my one of a kind items, but I can't possibly keep them all, so it was nice to get a few hundred dollars to offset the cost of my beads and supplies.
I also love to make my goofy record bowls (hey, people love those crazy things!) and I'm working on some designs to use the covers as well. Some are in such bad shape they are unusable, but I have some really cool ones and I can't just throw them away. I love the idea of taking something that would otherwise be thrown away and making something neat out of it. And I love that crafting slogan: "Rock is dead. Long live paper and scissors!"

A while back, I found a Shaun Cassidy autographed picture mounted on an engraved wooden plaque (covered in an inch-thick coat of varnish to boot) for 99 cents. I'd have kicked myself if I didn't get it. God it's so tacky. I just love it!

Thrifting is so fun, but there isn't any good thrift stores around here, boo. My new summer project is a Fairy Garden. I wish I could find the picture again but the concept was to plant dwarf versions of various plants and have various "fairy furnature", which is some doll house furnature and a mini fountain for the fairy. Mine might be similer to this[/color];my boys gave me a pretty fairy statue for mother's day and my oldest thinks she needs her own home in the front garden so that is our new project.

Hey, TiaMaria, I bead too! It's so cool that you managed to sell some of yours-- I'm still at the gifts-for-family-and-friends stage, but after a while one runs out of birthdays and holidays, so I'd always hoped to peddle some of mine eventually (not professionally, but to cover the cost of the hobby). Out of curiosity, where do you get your crystals? I've been looking longingly at Swarovski beads for quite some time, but they never seem to drop below a pricey ~$0.30 per (6mm) bead, regardless of the supplier-- and that's a little too rich for my blood.

Yay, alcyone, another beader! It's very addicting, don't ya think?
I buy most of my stuff at the bead shows that come through town. I went to a bead renaissance last weekend and there were some fantastic vendors there with great prices and I did load up on the swarovskis, they just have the best sparkle and color. I'll pm you when I get home with the name of the vendor I bought them from and the prices, I know it was less than 30 cents/bead but they were smaller than 6mm. Anyway, I'll let you know and you can check out their website and see if you can find what want.

A publishing company called Light-Beams is making a series of books about creating fairy houses. Titles include Fairy Houses, Fairy Boat, and Fairy Flight. It's designed to get kids to think about nature. I wished I cross-stitched because I would love to do some of these. Aren't they great? Maybe I can get my crafty friend to make this one for a Christmas present.
