Oh man - I love when this thread gets brought back to life! Breakfast today was macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup, and a cup of the most awesome Maui coffee with half and half. I also had a bite of cookie sample and a gelato sample when we picked up the coffee. Lunch was a hummus (this awesome thick, chive-studded hummus we discovered here), red onion, avocado and spinach sandwich on multigrain Ezekiel, a small bag of Maui onion potato chips, some sauteed veggies I picked up at a local health food store here, and a lime Pellegrino. Eaten on the beach! Afternoon snack was a shave ice. Oh, it's SO good, especially at our favorite place we discovered. I had the Coconut Lovers - pina colada, coconut and Tiger's Blood (coconut/cherry) on top of haupia ice cream, which is a coconut pudding ice cream. It sounds super weird to get shave ice on top of ice cream, but it's sooo good. Dinner was a blonde beer, a Corona with lime, and two slices of pizza with red onions, olives, mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes. At a Tiki Bar. Yes, I am on vacation, can you tell?

Haupia ice cream?!? Yum! I love haupia and haven't had it for decades.
It's one of the best things ever! We used to get it at Matsumoto Grocery in Haleiwa (on the North Shore of Oahu) when I was growing up. Matsumoto is famous now, but back then it was pretty much only locals who knew about it.

Hey Tabby I used to live in Hawaii Kai and we used to go Matsumoto for shaved ice/ice cream on weekends (we'd go watch surfing competitions on the North Shore).
Suddenly I'm craving Bueno Nalo on the way home from boogey boarding at the beach, driving past Hawaii's Sea World, and that bright red lighthouse.

I made a pot of daal with spinach over the weekend. Enough for a few lunches. I had some today with toasted garlic naan. Breakfast was a smoothie with banana, mango, strawberry, soy milk and apple juice.
I'm not sure about dinner. My co-worker gave me some of her homegrown potatoes which I roasted last night. I ate half of them last night so I still have some left, just not sure what to have them with or add them to.

Lentils! That's what I need to start having for lunches! I was ridiculously hungry yesterday for some reason, even giving in and having a couple of slices of bread with Nutella throughout the day -- so much for the diet. I also ended up having tacos with refried beans for dinner. Store-bought shells, store-bought salsa, store-bought beans ... but sometimes you just gotta go trashy.

Today was a pretty good food day.
Breakfast: avocado with lime juice on toast. Half an apple (the toddler got the other half!)
Lunch: a cup of homemade cauliflower and bacon soup - yum! Then, tinned tuna and this tomato eggplanty mixture on bread.
Dinner: we went out for Japanese and shared - miso soup, beef tataki, gyoza, spider rolls, and a sushi/sashimi combination. And some sake! Perfect!

I haven't had Japanese in ages. I love gyoza and sushi! Yum!
I've been good today. Lunch was the last bit of beans, spinach, and tomato that I'd made up the other day, with a bit of the leftover ground beef from last night's tacos. Tasty and satisfying.
Dinner is cauliflower and blue cheese soup, and some eggplant patties to round it out. The soup is the one from 101cookbooks and is one of my all-time favorite soups.

WitchyPoo - you've got me craving a poached egg over roasted potatoes! Ha! I ended up melting some cheese over the potatoes and topping all of it with two fried eggs. Glorious.
