Red velvet cake is just an overrated baked good. I think people are all obsessed with it because it's red. I have made it and it's red due to a bottle of food coloring. No magic there! And the taste - eh. Carrot cake, however, done well is a thing of joy. And healthy to boot, because those 4 carrots TOTALLY offset the butter, cream cheese and sugar! Ugh ugh ugh. As a former farmer's market/artisanal cupcake baker, I co-sign on red velvet cake. It is a waste of time and energy because it's a non-committal cake. Made well, it has a nice, silky texture, but little flavor. It's visually stunning, although I prefer a blue velvet. It's crap to decorate with because it's too fluffy and doesn't stack well. I have a recipe that actually tastes good, but I'm so embittered and scarred by it that I hate it. Carrot cake is amazing. I prefer it without nuts and pineapple, but I won't complain. I love a brown sugar or caramel icing with carrot cake (or spice cake). It's perfect. Mmmm....happy face.

The finest carrot cake I ever had was sprinkled with toasted coconut shreds.
Carry on...

My mom used to make carrot cake with carrot baby food instead of grated carrots. Gave it a nice creamy texture. And no evil raisins.

I knew if I waited long enough this would end up being about cake. Anyway, the best carrot cake in my opinion has pineapple and raisins, no nuts and no coconut. I have never had it with baby food, but would like to try it. The last few times I made it I did so with pre-shredded carrot and I have to say, I didn't notice a huge difference.

I haven't had carrot cake in years, but there's a place in town that's supposed to have a good one. I keep meaning to stop by and try it. Breakfast yesterday was a cup of coffee and a slice of ontbijtkoek, which is literally breakfast cake, but it's sort of like a spiced dense bread. Lunch was a boiled egg and two veggie cookies, which I make. They're basically a mix of chopped vegetables cooked down slightly, mixed with some flour and egg, cheese, and I usually add soy sauce or ketjap manis for seasoning, and then baked in cookie shapes. Dinner was a salad of mango, red bell pepper and shrimp, seasoned with lime juice and lots of Old Bay Seasoning and red pepper flakes. Dessert was vanilla ice cream and strawberries. That was one of the healthier days I've had in a while.

Fat Food Friday is (officially) here. I see no reason to quit while ahead. Gym workout (it was rainy so I couldn't run). So far: 1 cup of coffee, half a cup of hot chocolate. Some spicy biltong. A packet of Lays sour cream and onion (small). Lunch will be two rotis with lentil curry and cheese (YUM). I have some Lindt pieces for afternoon snack and dinner will probably be pizza because it's been two whole weeks since I've had pizza and that is just ridiculous, cruel and unusual behaviour. Are you in South Africa? I thought you were in Australia, but the timing of your posts seemed off and biltong seems like a clue : ) If so, I might have a million ZA food questions for you! Today for me: black coffee then wheat toast with extra crunchy peanut butter, then a chocolate Rip van Wafels with a milky coffee. Then I went home for an early lunch and had leftover bok choy, chicken and rice noodle stir fry with a fried egg. Oh, and a cup of dark chocolate almond milk. ETA: And stupid salty licorice. Why is it sooo good? And why doesn't anyone else like it? Why am I cursed to eat this entire bag by myself???

ETA: And stupid salty licorice. Why is it sooo good? And why doesn't anyone else like it? You'd be fine here in the Netherlands. The Dutch love their drop, especially the salty stuff. I'm not a fan of licorice in general, though, so that's one area I haven't integrated. Yesterday's food was the same as the day before, except as it was Friday, we had steak, asparagus, and fries for dinner, one of our weekly traditions.

-- or --
(Yoga day) 2 coffee w/half & half 2 boiled eggs (whites only) Half a bagel w/cashew butter
Lunch: Chipotle bowl w/double chicken, black beans, salsa & guacamole
Snack: Chocolate of some sort (dove, nestle, etc. minis)
Dinner: Grilled chicken that's been marinated in something Steamed veggies of some sort Sweet potato
Dessert: Halo Top ice cream
Sometimes I feel like I eat too much, others, not enough. I'm not super vigilant, but I use MyFitnessPal to track calories/macros. I try, no matter the actual calories, to hit macros (40C/30F/30P), but hitting 30% protein is HARD!
I don't deny myself anything. If I want a fecking Oreo, I'm gonna have some Oreos. Just not the whole package!

Traffic, earnest question: at what point in your fitness journey did you start using pre-workout and amino acid supplements? I make whey protein shakes sometimes, but it's not a habit, more like a stop-gap measure if I know it's going to be a while between meals or if my workout was extra tough.
Today, so far: thawed crumb cake, two cups of coffee with half and half and a pinch of habanero sugar.
