The piggyback ride thing was part of TDS's attempt to encourage tourism in NYC after 9/11. It was something along the lines of how Paul Rudd hung out in Central Park (or was it Washington Square) giving piggyback rides to tourists. Mr. Rudd was distractingly hot in the tux though. Ohhh, the tuuuuux! Yeah, he looked great. All I remember from the piggyback thing was that the correspondent (one of the blondes they had in-between Nancy Walls and Samantha Bee, I think...) is walking around and goes, "hey! It's Paul Rudd!" and PR goes, "hop on!" It was so absurd, and it wasn't until then that I realized how funny he was. And then the reporter said something like "He's here every Tuesday!" and Paul smiles and says "No fatties!" Months later he came on the show again and said he actually happened to be in Central Park on a Tuesday and this girl said "Hey are you doing piggyback rides?" and he was like "Wha?!" and then remembered the skit and then remembered what he said in it and then he smiled at the girl and said "No fatties!" and she got really upset and walked away and then it occurred to him that he just called this girl a fatty and he felt bad.

This is becoming the stuff of legends. If someone mentions Paul Rudd tracking her down and taking her to a Phil Collins concert, I'm outta here.

Did anyone else see Steve Carell on Monday's show? They reminisced about another great segment they did--Steve pretending to be the wildlife guy from the Tonight Show, but SC's idea of wild animals was a fluffy dog and a goldfish. Can Comedy Central just put out a "Best of" DVD already and make my entire life complete!?

I saw it. You know, I never thought I liked Steve Carell before, but he seems like such a nice guy. He really came across as good people.

I wish someone would tell Jon Stewart that it's not funny or enjoyable for the home audience when he opens the show every damn night by commenting on some discussion he had with his audience before the show. It never makes sense, and the audience cackling at the inside jokes just annoys the hell out of me. Is it to make us want to see the show live or something?

Colbert broke his wrist, and after it healed, he auctioned the cast. Currently, it's going for 12k. EbayBy the way, if you haven't been checking out the Colbert report this week, you should. in the Wristgate section, Stephen strips. And wriggles his muscles a lot. In close-up. (Actually, I'm not even sure if it's his body, but, y'know, like, who cares.)

I've been in the live audience...you're right, it's completely hilarious and in the moment if you're there, and gets the best applause ever, but if you're at home...nada. Sometimes I still chuckle from the memory of being on the other side though.

Was that really R Kelly doing the Trapped in the Closet thing for Craig the other night? If so, I may just forgive him a bit for how much he sucks. But you'd think he'd want to steer clear of embarrassing sex scandal jokes in his situation.

Does anyone else have this problem? I cannot view TDS videos on their Motherload site -- they never load. I click to view one, then it starts but then switches to another, then another, and I never get to see more than a second of a vid. GRRRR! I have a Mac (OSX 10.3.9). I've tried Firefox, Safari, and IE for Mac. Sooo frustrated! I can see them if they're in another site (e.g., Crooks & Liars). I used to have this problem when I taught Civics. I never figured out how to consistently view their clips (sorry for being shitty help) and it was really disappointing. To tie one of the videos (PG-rated of course) in with textbooks and real life was the highlight of the class for my kids.
