The weakest link is Peter Capaldi IMO. I'm not familiar with his other work, so he may be a gifted actor BUT maybe gifted acting isn't what's required to play the character of The Doctor, who has a sense of fun and wimzy that requires one to swallow their pride and camp it up to embarrassing degrees. This is where I think Capaldi falters. There are lines that you just know are meant to be campy and ridiculous, and he states them flatly and seriously. Maybe he's going for sardonic? Whatever he's doing, it's not working for this character and this show. And here I thought I hated Matt Smith. I'd love to have him back! Anything is better than this.

I really like Capaldi as an actor, but I am not loving him as the Doctor. Also I am completely distracted by his hair in this episode I'm watching now - it looks frosted grey and is all I can look at. Clearly the plot isn't holding my attention! Clara bugs, and I'm bored...

Still underwhelmed by 12. Getting nostalgic for 11.

I skipped the Orient Express episode but watched the one from last night, which I enjoyed. It's very hit or miss for me this season and depends entirely on the story being told. I can overlook anything for a good old-fashioned cheesy sci fi story.

I don't mind Capaldi but I keep waiting for Malcolm Tucker to rear his head! I can't stand Clara - when will she go away.
I really liked the Eccleston Dr and David Tennant - phwoar!

I feel like the writers are not writing for Capaldi. (I haven't seen all the episodes yet, so maybe it changes...)

I didn't watch the finale yet but I can already give you my answer: No. I'm never entirely aware of what's going on with this show anymore. Ever since Matt Smith's giant head popped out of the tardis I've had a hard time being totally into it. And Peter Capaldi only made things worse. I really miss the seasons with David Tennant and his companions, especially Rose and Rose's family and BF. DT seemed to have better chemistry with his costars and, for whatever reason, I had a much easier time following along with the stories.

HOD, I haven't watched since Tennant, and it took a while for me to warm up to him after Eccleston (Dr. Who was a foreign concept to me until I recognized CE mid-episode one day). I thought, "Well if he's in it I can keep watching..." Turns out I was watching one of his last appearances! I got into the mythology of the evolving doctor etc. I thought Tennant was okay but now that I've seen his successors, I give him even more credit.

I liked Matt Smith a lot and even like Capaldi! I just wish they had a better writer. Moffat is so busy making the OVERALL arc of the stories...that he loses a lot. Some episodes need to be able to be stand alone. Eccleston is my favorite.
