I hate pretty much every character on ER now. It's a whole hour of eyerolling for me. White hot rage for Lana Lang on Smallville. Instead of talking about how she's so wonderul, maybe the writers could have her actually do something wonderful. ETA: Yes, I do watch Smallville.

^The WB likes to do that with their lead female characters. Show don't tell! God, they do, don't they? And yes, apparently none of the writers on WB shows came to class the day they spelled out the golden rule of "Show, Don't Tell" in Television Writing 101. And that is why I too have a burning hatred for Lana Lang (I now only watch Smallvillle on occasion. It just isn't as fun since the totally gay vibe between Clark and Lex died). It would really be okay for everyone on that show to worship Lana if she were actually awesome. But she isn't. And it isn't Kristin Kreuk's fault - well, not completely anyway. She doesn't help the situation much because she isn't a strong enough actor to make a silk purse out of the sow's ear the writers keep handing to her. The bottom line is that the writers make every character on the show sing the praises of Lana, yet they write Lana herself to completely suck. She's whiny, boring, self-centered, and a crappy friend. Why can't the writers write her to be as wonderful as all their other characters make her out to be? I've actually noticed that I don't like a lot of the teenage female characters on tv (lead characters, anyway. Supporting characters are okay), and I think it is because either television writers don't know how to write them, or all the networks have the same (crappy) idea in their head of what teenage girls are like. I am beginning to suspect that it is network influence, or maybe that writers just don't know how to maintain interesting teen girl characters, because most of the teenage girls on tv who drive me batty started out fine. Joey Potter started out as the spunky tomboy, then she devolved into a spineless mess (not unlike Katie Holmes herself). Looking back at the first season of Smallville, Lana was actually tolerable. Not great, but tolerable. She was at least a fairly nice person. Now she just sucks completely. I don't watch Gilmore Girls, but a friend of mine does and she was recently complaining that Rory started out likable, but now she's self-centered little snot. On a non-WB show, Joan from Joan of Arcadia started out as a girl who was smart and snarky, if a bit unfocused and unmotivated, but by the second season she had turned into a total moron who was (say it with me) rather whiny, self-absorbed, and a bit spineless. Even Veronica Mars started to bore me in the second season when all she cared about was her boring boyfriend Duncan and couldn't even be arsed to learn the names of the kids who died in the bus accident she thought was meant for her. The only teenage girl I can think of off the top of my head (outside of supporting characters) who didn't start to suck is Maebe from Arrested Development - but then, that was a different kind of character on a different kind of show, and it was very much an ensemble, so it wasn't like she was a lead character.

CSI: Miami was repeated and I find my hate towards Horatio Caine has not diminished at all. If anything, I think it has grown more and more as time goes by.
And yes, Rory of Gilmore Girls has become an annoying and whining brat, all about me me me me. First season it was still quite fun, but after a while it got tiresome and I basically stopped watching.

No one has added the black hole of acting fug that was Elisabeth Röhm in the role of A.D.A. Serena Southerlyn from L&O Original Recipe?
Can you imagine the show that Ho Caine and "Is it because I'm a lesbian" Serena could have? Add a bit of Sara Sidle from CSI and it would be the most craptastic show ever.

Ugh, Serena. Actually, Ugh, Elisabeth. Her voice and syballant "s"'s were the worst thing on television.

I see you Serena and raise you Madame Director from NCIS. Where to start on the hate? The hair, the flashbacks to the "making love" scene with Mark Harmon, the coy girlie act?
Lady, you're supposed to be in charge!!

I've only ever seen commercials and small clips, but the mother and daughter on Gilmore Girls drive me crazy! The dialogue is so unnatural and both of their voices grate.
