TV Characters We Hate

I so enjoyed Slashgirl's thread called "TV characters we love" that I thought we should do one for the opposite category. Plus, there are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more TV characters I hate. So many, in fact, that you'll end up hating this long-assed post! <g>

I know I will be in the minority on this one so I'm getting ready to put on my flak jacket. :::whispers::: All the characters on Seinfeld.

Ray Romano's character on Everybody loves Raymond. No, you whiny selfish, self-absorbed spoilt lazy bastard, everybody does NOT love you.

Detective Goran on L&O:Criminal Intent. I cannot STAND the way he thrusts his face into someone else's while tilting his head in this weird horizontal position. It gives me a crick in my neck just to look at it. Plus, it's just plain creepy and abnormal. He's abnormal. I hate, hate, hate.

Carmela on the Soprano's. ARRGH! Two-faced hypocritical, manipulative gold-digger who knew what she was getting into but said/says nothing so long as she keeps on getting the furs, the big houses etc. Sad thing is, I used to like her in the first season.

Kate on "Lost." Why does she exist? No, really. WHY? I get that TPTB think she is so special and hot, but I'm not seeing it.

Phoebe on "Charmed." Look, you tattooed, cheap bimbo, the world does NOT revolve around your self-centered, "I'm so cute and adoreable" ass. And if keep on doing that big gaping mouthed grin as you speak every line, I'm going to send some of my dog's fecal matter to the producers of the station. Die already.

Six Feet Under --- Boy, it's hard to know where to begin because they've made every likeable character into an UNlikeable one at some point or another. But only Claire and (the now thankfully dead) Lisa have *always* been annoying, from start to finish. Self-centered, neurotic, idiots. Other than those two fruitloops, Federico became a jerk (and a patsy); his wife turned into a harpy whose breakdown and interactions with her sister forced him into infidelity; Claire's ex, Russell, makes my skin crawl and.... well, let's say they all suck the big one except for Kathy Bates' character; Joanna Cassidy's totally nutso (in an honest way) shrink character (Margaret); and the Alan Bates redux, Arthur.

Grace on "Will & Grace" --- God, I hate you. The very thought of you makes me grind my teeth into little piles of dust. You have the Phoebe problem, minus the tattoos and with even less intelligence. **IF** that's even possible. What's worse, you don't even try to act nice and sweet as she does in that saccharine-y way. You're just a flatout useless, Me-Me-Me-Me whiny, neurotic bitch. If you absolutely HAVE to channel Woody Allen, do you have to be such a bitch about everything as well. Die, die, die.

ITA. I would single Ray Romano's character out for hatred, except that I hate every character on that show, so I usually just say I hate the show as a whole.

I can remember being a very small child and twitching with hatred for Terry when they brought her on Three's Company. The episode where Jack plays all the tricks on her and tries to humiliate her at the party? I was in Jack's corner all the way.
I hate Carrie Bradshaw on SATC. Just. Ewww.
And I also agree with you about Six Feet Under. I'm starting to really hate all the characters on that show, too. So I doubt I'll watch the next season.
And last but not least...I really hate the irritating characters on The Sopranos. Characters brought onto the show specifically to give Tony Soprano agita, except they aren't nearly as interesting or compelling as his mother so you just sit there and wait for them to be killed. I'm thinking Janice. And Richie. And Ralphie. And Gloria (though she truly brought the crazy, so she at least was entertaining). Of late Johnny Sack has been added to my shit list. He needs to go.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a whiny, half-witted, self-absorbed bint, killing monsters in a mini-skirt, heels, and push-up bra for the wanking purposes of the male viewers. I don't see how she is any more of a feminist statement than Charlie's Angels. And the teenagers who have to metaphorically "slay monsters" in high school are not the ones who look like they walked off a Vogue cover shoot. Such is life.

I'm totally there with you, Kafka. She's Lil Miss Perfect, except ooh, we'll give her a little tinge of a criminal past for an "edge". Boringboringboring. Did they have to make the most boring character Canadian?

Well, there's the obvious Marissa Cooper from The OC, but I didn't think she was that bad when she was being a lesbian; but now that she's over that into Ryan again, I don't dig. I do not dig at all.

I also can't stand Treat (Dr. Brown) on Everwood. On a show full of such good characters he ruins it all by being such a hypocrite. Buddy, you said yourself you don't want to be the guy that the wife has an affair with - SO WHY DO IT?! Why!? What's the point?! What do you get out of it? And I hate how he acted all high and above when ComaMan thanked him. He was all "Yeah I save yo' ass" when he should have really been like "Sorry for baggin' your wife, man". Not to mention the fact that he payed off the girl his son impregnated so she wouldn't tell him. I hate you Andy Brown.

The characters on that crapfest 7th Heaven own this thread.

I've also never liked Donna from That 70s Show. I never understood her hotness and Laura Prepon sucks.

And then there's Dawson freakin' Leery. Joey loves Pacey more than you. Shut up and get over yourself. While you're at it, lighten your eyebrows or something, it really, really clashes with your ugly hair.

It seems on most shows I like the secondary and tertiary characters better than the main character. Carrie on Sex and the City was just boring, whiny, and self-absorbed. I wish the plot would revolve more around the other characters who were actually interesting. And, although I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I think the character of Buffy was my least favorite. I didn't hate her, but she got really annoying the last few seasons.

How difficult is it for screenwriters to create appealing characters? It doesn't matter whether they're good or bad. Just make them interesting and multi-dimensional, for the love of all that's holy.

I cannot believe that no one has mentioned Horatio Caine yet. As far as I'm concerned, he is the worst character on TV today.

You were a Detective in Narc and your brother was a turncoat dealer and he died. We get it.

You're in creepy love with your sister-in-law, and have been for approximately ever. We know.

You don't appear to have any sort of lab skills or really any skills that would qualify you to head up the CSI team.

I actually kinda prefer the secondary characters to the primary ones now that Livia has gone. I loved Adriana and Janice when she first appeared. Janice was so honest in being a fruitloop and I loved it when she blew Richie's head off. I had serious hate for Ralphie, esp. after what he did to that pregnant dancer, but there is supposed to be evil on the show, if you know what I mean. That's why Richie was cool too. It's like what you said about Gloria and how she brought the crazy.

But the primary characters are just whiny hypocrites who drive me up the fucking wall. Minus Tony, of course, who's relatively honest about who and what he is. And Uncle Junior too who I just LOVE. Love that wily man.

Maayan, I'm with you on Sarah from CSI. Didn't like her from the start. An uptight snot.

Value of Annie, I don't feel the Horatio hate as much as the Goran [L&O:CI] hate but, yes, H. *does* grate. One thing I don't get about that show though. Horatio is not technically a policeman, is he? On CSI Vegas, the lab is headed by a scientist who wouldn't presume to order the detective to do certain things. Suggest or give ideas, maybe, but not order. But on CSI Miami, Horatio actually tells the detective what to do as though he's his boss. Maybe I'd know the answer if I watched the show enough but I can't do it. So not worth the agita, to use a Soprano's term. heh.

BTW, speaking of Soprano's did anyone hear that Lorraine Bracco was in therapy for depression for a number of years. She commented on the irony given her character is a shrink who treats Tony for depression. Just thought that was an interesting tidbit.
