So many thoughts!
I, too, thought Carrie looked insane and like Mrs. Havisham (Havishamian?) in that dress, which was gorgeous, but not really designed to be worn outside while alone. Or with pink long gloves. To the Met ball? Sure.
Did anyone else notice she had his ashes inside her (tiny) purse? Not inside a bag in her purse. Just inside the purse. Yuck. I think I had more ashes from my Labrador, btw. And why would Big want to be sprinkled in Paris? Carrie, definitely. But Big? I would think he'd want to be sprinkled in Cooperstown or something. Way to make it about you again, Carrie.
Miranda gives up an internship to loll around LA for a couple months with someone who announces she's going to LA by singing "California Girls"? WTF? More red flags than a bull fight.

I actually thought the whole ashes storyline was off. A lot of people keep the urn in their house. Or they keep some, sprinkle some, etc. There's no rule they have to all go to one place. We joke my sister is all over the place (including in a necklace I have).
I bet season 2 starts with Miranda talking about Che in the past tense and we never get a real payoff how the relationship implodes.

I have had limited experience with this, but I thought human ashes are pretty substantial, and that's why they normally are held in something the size of an urn, and not a goofy little Eiffel Tower purse. That was a distracting thing to think about during the scene. If she was going to put Big into a stupid purse, why not the Judith Leiber swan that Big gave her in Season 2? Carrie disdained that purse, but a bejeweled swan is no worse than a bejeweled Eiffel Tower.

So I just read that Miranda's same sex relationship was originally going to be with Nya, her professor, but they didn't think it would be sexy to have two straight women doing that. That would have made a lot more sense and would have seemed more authentic. And it would better explain her stupid bumbled reaction to meeting her better.

That would have made a lot more sense and would have seemed more authentic. And it would better explain her stupid bumbled reaction to meeting her better. I read that, too, and frankly while I still don't like the destruction of her marriage, she does have a nice rapport with Nya, and that relationship wouldn't have had the bizarre over-the-top obsession element that her involvement with Che does. I also think it's a little offensive to suggest that two straight women discovering mutual attraction "isn't sexy". I also think they're a little deluded if they think Che/Miranda is sexy. I did enjoy the trans rabbi. She was a nice addition and I'd rather have seen a lot more of her than Che. I don't think there's anything "wrong" with Che's character, and all the articles declaring them the worst character are because the writing around that character is so awful.

As mediocre-bad this season may have been, the show did create something potent with the character of Che Diaz. It certainly got people talking, while a lot of the show's other gimmicks just fell flat. While the show did hint at some of Che's less-than-admirable qualities - such as being a huge pothead and "a bit of a narcissist" - it left a lot of other, more troubling qualities completely unaddressed and that's what I disliked. This is a good article about how Che continually gaslights Miranda. Che is always the one in control, always intentionally makes Miranda feel insecure, and manipulates Miranda into accepting the ever-changing relationship terms that Che sets unilaterally. It's such a malignant situation, and at the end of the season, I think we are supposed to feel that Miranda is going in a good direction by ending her marriage, ditching her new career path and boldly and spontaneously pursuing this new relationship. I also think it's a little offensive to suggest that two straight women discovering mutual attraction "isn't sexy". I also think they're a little deluded if they think Che/Miranda is sexy. To be clear, it was Cynthia Nixon who objected to Miranda getting together with another straight woman. She was the one who said it wouldn't be sexy and that Miranda should be with someone "butch". She is the one who asked Michael Patrick King to switch the storyline, after the characters of Nya and Che had already been created. And maybe that is Cynthia Nixon wanting this storyline to reflect her own personal experiences.

I think I can separate out the character of Che from the relationship and I still stand by the fact that Che is TERRIBLE. Sara Ramirez did a great job with the character, but the character sucks. They’re rude, narcissistic, selfish, and not funny in the slightest.
I read something with Michael Patrick King and it didn’t sound like he and the writers were shocked that no one liked that plotline. Everyone watching can see the red flags, Carrie and Nya see them, but Miranda is too wrapped up in the newness of it all to see. I can’t imagine LA is going to go well.

Speaking of which, Miranda was a way better friend to Carrie when Carrie wanted to throw away her career and move to Paris to be with the Russian. Miranda stepped up, spoke the difficult truth, and suffered the consequences of Carrie getting mad at her. All Carrie wanted to do was sulk about how Miranda's move would logistically impact her trip to Paris.

Carrie gonna Carrie, no matter what decade of life she's in.

For once I was on Carrie’s side about Paris. Your closest friend needs support while scattering her late husband’s ashes, and you’re going to ditch that for the filming of a pilot TV show? Che is also friends with Carrie, I’m sure they would understand. Miranda seems like she’s about 100th on Che’s list of priorities, I doubt it would have been a blip on Che’s radar.
