Final episode thoughts: If I saw a woman walking around Paris in that orange and pink getup, I would feel sorry for her and her clear mental health problems. I would also keep an eye on what she was doing on that bridge. So I guess it's going to take until Season 2 before the show gets around to Miranda realizing Che is nothing but a jerk who treats her badly, and that it's a mistake to base her life around them. Yeah, I know a big part of this show is the fashion and all, but that ridiculous (and ill-fitting) dress on a person wandering around on a bridge in the dark, it just looked crazy. It was very noticeable where they cut Chris Noth out of the show, you can see where he would have appeared. I guess because I didn't watch the original show and don't know what original Miranda was like, I assumed it was intended to look like a trainwreck in the making with her following Che to LA. Her character becomes instantly foolish when Che is around, she's grounded and mature with a great haircut in the scenes with her friends, but every time Che's in the picture, she suddenly looks like a doddering grandma with that unflattering wavy hairstyle. Even the timber of her voice changes when she's with or talking about Che, she gets all high-pitched. To me, it seemed specifically designed to foreshadow a hard fall when this relationship goes to shit. But reading the stuff from the writers makes me wonder if I'm wrong.

It sounds like the writers thought the scenes with Miranda and Che were hot and they had a lot of chemistry. Yikes. Whereas I think Miranda and Nya would have been a much more believable couple (and may have somewhat explained Miranda's awkwardness meeting her). But now I'm wondering if I'm inadvertently being biased against a non-binary character.

I actually generally enjoy Che. Sarah Ramirez is a fun performer, and it’s nice to see a queer character enjoying their life. That Miranda is bizarrely obsessed and entranced with Che and it doesn’t work for me, is because of Miranda and her bizarre character assassination. Nya would have made much more sense if they insisted on Miranda having a queer affair.

Nya would have made much more sense if they insisted on Miranda having a queer affair. I think you've hit the nail on the head here! The problem with this storyline is that they are so determined to push it along in a few short episodes that they totally forgot who Miranda is. Her relationship with Steve was never perfect, but they convincingly presented him as the great love of her life. As that great love, he started out as a sex buddy that she didn't take seriously because he was a bartender. He worked hard to knock down those walls and eventually she realized he was something special. They broke up because their lives didn't fit well together and Miranda wasn't willing to change as much as would have been needed to make it work. But when he needed her she was there for him, and along came Brady. She thought she could raise a kid with him platonically, and as much as she fought the feelings she still had for him, she tried and tried until she couldn't anymore. They realized they could not be a family in a single girl apartment and she fought it and fought it, but then gave in and moved to Brooklyn. Everything along the way was on her terms and her time line, but also recognizing that at her core, Steve brought her contentment. Even if we accept the idea that not every "the one" relationship is meant for a lifetime and believe it's time for Steve and Miranda to move on - it makes no sense at all that she'd fight and fight her feelings for Steve, but after one great finger bang in Carrie's kitchen, would suddenly be a desperate teenager falling all over her new obsession, willing to bend and mold herself into Che's expectations to extremes even Charlotte would not have gone to in her most determined to get married years.

Miranda also didn’t seem to care that she was cheating on Steve. And considering how hurt she was for nearly a year after he had a one night stand…. And her 17 year old son is fine with Mom blowing up their lives??

Renewed for Season 2.
Based on the comments here and elsewhere, I find this surprising.

Renewed for Season 2. Based on the comments here and elsewhere, I find this surprising. I saw somewhere that HBOMax said this was their most successful show to date, so I guess I’m not surprised in that sense. I watched the first two episodes and gave up, and most people I know similarly couldn’t get through it (as fans of the original), but someone was out there watching. Was everyone hate watching? I kept up by reading the Go Fug Yourself recaps, and they did not hold back in their absolute disappointment and criticism throughout.

Was everyone hate watching? Yes. As frustrating as the show might have been, it was being widely watched and discussed every single week, so I'm not surprised it's getting renewed. The actors and producers clearly want to keep it going, too.
