After spending many a weekend sitting on my ass in front of my HBO OnDemand, watching and rewatching these episodes, I have come to the conclusion that even though I loved the show, after Season 3, CARRIE is horrendous. I still liked everyone else, but damn. Last week the Fleet Week episode was on, and she was so annoying! ANNOYING! And when she practically forced Aidan to get back w/ her. And, and, and.
But I still love it. And as much as she annoyed me at that point, I couldn't/can't stop watching it. Cynthia Nixon is awesome.

Oh, Carrie was absolutely the weak link in the show. Even Charlotte at her most "I must get married and have baybeez!" was less grating than Miss Thang. I never understood what Aidan and Berger (Ron Livingston -- yum!) saw in her, as they had absolutely nothing in common. They just seemed so "real," and wouldn't fall for her little act. Big and she were perfect, because they were both just so shallow.
I think the hate was finally cemented in the episode where Samantha and her girlfriend (Maria?) break up, and they're all doing the post-mortem at Steve's new bar. Princess Carrie announces there will be no more talk about the strap-on, and when Samantha ignores her, she brats, "Did you hear what I said?" Bitch, please. Like your friends need approval from you for topics of conversation. It was all about her (as usual), and how she was there to try and weasel back with Aidan.
And it always bugged me how Charlotte, Samantha, and Miranda would each call Carrie their "best friend," but never any of the other women. Like she's the end-all, be-all. Smacks of SJP's ego.
And, my God, don't even get me started on the "fashion." I've never seen anybody look more stupid.
But for all that griping, I really do like the show, and still watch in reruns. I didn't think the whole TBS showing would work out, but it's oddly not butchered too badly.

as annoying as she was, I really liked Carrie (runs to hide in the corner in shame).....ever since SATC started, my uncle has called me "Carrie Bradshaw" because of my curly hair and love for expensive designer shoes...

Oh, I liked her too--it's just sometimes she was so grating and selfish that I wanted to slap her around. But there were other times when she was a really good friend...when Miranda is struggling at the abortion clinic, and when Charlotte is getting ready to walk down the aisle, and also when Miranda has the baby--Carrie is really there for them.
When Samantha tells Carrie about the cancer, and then they go to Miranda's wedding and Carrie grabs her hand, I get a little misty-eyed.
She was so bad to Aidan. Lying, and lying, and more lying, and some more lying. UGH.

I don't know why Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte were so excited to see Carrie when she came back from Paris. They were probably having their first good conversation in years.

Word, beniciosgal. And I never understood what ol' Big, a/k/a "John", saw in her either. And, I watched every episode like the proverbial hawk. I coveted Carrie's collection of Choos and Blahniks (hell, I spotted a couple of pairs of Blahniks on the sale rack at TJ Maxx Saturday night! Heh heh - what, they're bargain basement now? Of course, they were a size 11 and could be used as canoes in an emergency - no offense to those folks with the double digit sized tootsies). I seriously doubt anyone with that "real" job in NYC would be able to afford her apartment, her clothing selection (as atrocious as it was at times) or the rest of her lifestyle.

I liked Carrie too, but I agree that her selfishness and inconsiderate behavior really got out of control as the show went on. Remember when Berger broke up with her, and she interrupted Charlotte to put the post-it on Charlotte's hand ("paper covers rock!") and get the conversation back to her?
I saw one of the first Berger episodes on rerun the other day and I was struck by how similar the show mirrored a current Berger situation I was in. Like, I practically had the same conversation as Carrie and the girls when she spent the day with Berger and then he dropped the "girlfriend" bomb.

Some of Carrie's most repugnant behaviour, in no particular order:
Sleeping with Natasha's husband, then harassing her and basically stalking her to a restaurant to make herself feel better by telling Natasha how sorry she felt. Unbelievable.
"Paper covers rock." Ouch.
Guilt-tripping Charlotte into hawking her engagement ring to pay for her apartment. What?
Sending Aidan over to help Miranda when she was naked and immobile on the bathroom floor. Then going over to Miranda's the next day to "visit" her, or rather rant about Aidan. Grr.
Not showing up for her Paris book party and not even bothering to call the restaurant to tell them she wouldn't be there. Brutal.
Insisting that Samantha show up for her book release party, despite Samantha's protestations that she'd had a chemical peel, looked bad and didn't want to come. Carrie needed her stupid "plus one." Samantha bravely shows up and Carrie makes her leave. "You're scaring people." Niiice.
What have I left out?

I have just been given the SATC box set - best gift I have been given in ages. I watched most of the show on TV when it was on, but I there were a few I seemed to have missed. Best character IMO - Samantha. In the beginning I never used to like Miranda that much, but towards the end it was Carrie who was my least favourite and I loved Miranda. I agree with every single comment you made Beniciosgal, esp the chemical peel one. I also didn't like it when she lost her shoes at her friends baby party and made the woman feel gulity and kept hasselling her about it.

I never understood why any of them described themselves as friends.
I just...never liked this series. I tried and tried because all my friends raved about it, but then: aside from all the criticisms mentioned here--it was Carrie's terrible writing. All those stupid acronyms, which toward the end became ludicrous. "SSB: Sexy Swimming Behavior." Okay.
