Trophy Wife is the one I'm most upset about getting canceled aside from Community. It deserved a better time slot and more promotion.

My UO: I'm sick and tired of shows with enormous casts, multiple plotlines running simultaneously and having to go on-line to find interviews with the show-runners to find out what 'really happened'.
Bring back shows where everything was wrapped up in one episode. I don't care if they never mention the love interest again, I want to be entertained, not do homework.

Not sure if this is unpopular or not but I just tried watching Seinfeld again after awhile and holy crap it was awful. It was like watching a cartoon. I was a senior in high school when it was first on air and college during its heyday. I was such a massive fan. It was a star of it's time but dear Jeebus it has not aged well. It's embarrassing to watch. Glad Julia has gone on to awesome success she's the best thing about it by a mile.

I miss the shit out of "Forever".
I absolutely hate reality TV and it makes me want to stab a TV exec with a rusty fork knowing Forever is dead while the multiple Real Housewives of Whatever Places and season 500 of the Bachelor live on and will probably never get cancelled.

My UO: I'd rather watch 50 year old reruns of Perry Mason or 40 year old reruns of Starsky and Hutch than most of today's TV and that includes critical darlings such as The Walking Dead.
I want shows that entertain me without the gross-out factor, plotlines that resolve themselves in one episode and basically decent, likeable main characters.

The AV Club wrote an article about the rise of the "mid-reputable" programming (not 'prestige' tv, but not trash). I whole-heartedly embrace the sentiment of it (as I have been of late gorging myself on The Flash and Jessica Jones...).

I miss the shit out of "Forever". Aw, I really like that show and was bummed when it was cancelled. It was able to balance the cases of the week with making progress on the underlying story well.

I have a popular one that gets me side-eye when I mention this at parties: Breaking Bad.
I think it was an amazing show. The acting was great. The writing was very strong. The directing and sound track and everything? Super.
But I mostly gave no fucks watching it. Like, I could tell I was watching quality. I was a bit emotional at certain resolutions, but often times I felt like there was nothing for me to invest in. I say this as someone who can often enjoy dark stories with no happy ending.
And actually, I think the writing relied on formula more than people notice/bring up. For example, every episode had at least one mansplain'/manpain monologue that I would just roll my eyes at. Long monologues can be awesome. But when you have one every episode and it's more or less always coming from the same bitter/deluded white man? Damn. Let me boot up a computer game while you do that, Walt.

I agree with you. I think halfway through Season 1, I realized that I didn't care what happened to any of the characters. I love Bryan Cranston (but more in other roles than as Walt). I love Bob Odenkirk - Saul was the best thing about the show. I hated almost everybody else. I found it arduous to get through - it felt like doing homework.
I also agree with Laira - bring back some shows that are mostly standalone episodes. I'm kind of hoping the new X-Files eps are more standalone than "myth". I'd love for them to pretend that the last three seasons of the show didn't happen. I've been re-watching classic Twilight Zone episodes and it's nice to be a bit freaked out by one episode and then move on to the next.
