Oh, me too. A highly naughty musical, perhaps? If they do another project, I want lots of making out and other, uhm, things. I wonder if Lena still has the bowler hat from Unbearable Lightness. Interesting article on Slate. I kinda disagree with some points -- I think Jen has done some subtle stuff, but the show is at its best when it's most pulpy and comic book like. I honestly don't know why the producers of Casino Royale didn't hire JJ or some others of the production staff -- screw MI3, this show captures the spirit of Bond so well. Man, that would've been such a good surprise at the end if, you know, it wasn't ruined on a stupid ad. Why do that? It seems pointless to me. I can NOT wait for Anna Espinosa. She was such an awesome nemesis. Speaking of evil villains, I hope Sark comes back as well. I can't believe the lack of respect this show gets sometimes... I mean, my god, look at the guest star roster -- Faye Dunaway, Isabella Rosselini, Ethan Hawke. Ricky Gervase did this before he did the Simpsons and I'm sure he got tons and tons of offers...

I LOVED Isabella Rosselini as Katya Derevko. I know this is an unpopular opinion but I much prefer her to Lena Olin's Irina. I think Irina (Lina) is absolutely beautiful but the character is just so robotic and monotone to me. I do like Irina alot but I got a kick out of Katya. She just seems so....fun. More lively. She's every bit as cunning and badass as Irina.

Yep Katya is way more playful than both of her sisters, maybe it fits with the middle child thing of 'keeping the peace'. It's just good to see someone on this show having fun like when she flirts with Jack for the fun of it (and because he is hot) as opposed to Irina who does it for some unknown reason, probably to manipulate him (and because he is hot). I hope they let her out of gaol before the end of series as Isabella Rosselini going on a killing spree with Lena Olin and Victor Graber would be awesome.

And let's add Justin Theroux, Quentin Tarantino, Sonia Braga, Rutger Hauer, Djimon Hounsou, and I know I'm forgetting some, but the list is just flat out impressive.
I agree with you guys about Isabella's portrayal of Katya. One of my favorite Alias scenes ever was from last year with Jack visiting Katya in jail: "Do you intend to torture me Jack? I should warn you, I have quite a bit of stamina. But you already know that about me." Heh. Good times.

Christian Slater--don't forget Christian Slater.
Quick question: Irina Derevko was born in the Ukraine, right? Correct me if I'm incorrect on that. Anyway, shouldn't that make her name Irina Derevka, since in those former Soviet places they have male and female versions of last names? I've wondered about that off and on, but then again there's a lot to the show that I've forgotten or never picked up on in the first place, so maybe there's already been an explanation for that. Anyone have anything to say about that?

I've wondered the same thing, because typically in Russian names, the ladies do get that "a" ending. But I think I read somewhere where Ukrainians are the exception, and that's why she can have that "o" at the end of her name.
I could be wrong though, but I remember wondering about that when that character first showed up and was surprised that the name was actually correct (at least according to that source - I really don't remember where I saw it since it was a few years ago).

SwanFlake -- color me surprised, but apparently it is correct -- Wikipedia states that: "Ukrainian surnames generally end with -ko, -uk, and -ich (these endings do not change based on gender)." So Derevko would stay the same whether male or female... The question of how Syd can have an Argentinian sister from American and Russian parents or why Elena is able to change from Latina to Russian? Those we may not get answers for. (p.s. This current season is now on Itunes should you want to catch up before the finale...)

We can add Angela Bassett and Richard Roundtree to the list as well.

Speaking of guest stars, I recently read an interview with Victor Garber where he talked about all the guest stars they had on the show and seemed to imply that some of them were hell to work with. I wonder which one were difficult, but somehow the name "Faye Dunaway" just pops into my head.

So Derevko would stay the same whether male or female... Now that I think about it, there was a Ukrainian female gymnast named Tatiana Lysenko, and I can think of a few others now with names like Godunko and Teslanko, so yeah, that adds up now. I asked though because I remember in the last Olympics, there were a couple of Ukrainian gymnasts with the names Yarotska and Krasnyanska which I figured were female versions of Yarotsky and Krasnyansky, but I guess names with the sky/ska/skaya ending aren't natively Ukrainian.
