Okay, I'm one of those fans that would have liked a big happy SpyFamily -- Syd and SpyDaddy/Mommy, not Vaughn and a zillion SpyBabies -- to have been the "happy" ending. But I know that it makes sense for that not to happen. I think the thing that is irkiing a lot of people (myself included) is how Irina went from intriguingly, ambiguously evil(?) to BWAH-HA-HA! so quickly. As someone on TWoP pointed out - why would she stop the global destruction in the S4 finale but cause it now?
Apparently the original finale was supposed to be 2 and a half hours long. ABC said no way. Almost everything that was cut was Irina-centered. Seriously, after five years of a show, you cut the season and couldn't give up a lousy half-hour? But somehow you love JJ enough to give him a whopping three new shows next fall!? :grumble:

And how ABC put this show on the back burner for so long to debut all their mid-season shows--of those new shows, have any of them done well? "Emily's Reasons Why Not" tanked miserably, and that "Sons and Daughters" show didn't last either. I can't believe ABC felt that all there was so much potential to all their crappy midseason shows that turned out to be failures that they couldn't find a two hours somewhere for a couple more episodes of "Alias".
Hunter, did they film that extra half hour and might it be on the DVDs? Or did ABC say way ahead that it wasn't even going to be in their budget to film it?

I don't think I would have liked Jack and Irina together, but if they showed their final scene being something along the lines of them meeting up for dinner and a little miscellaneous in some exotic locale- well, I would have bought that.

That makes a lot of sense. There were any number of places where the editing felt off. Just one example: when Grace was freezing the bomb to slow it down, it was kind of confusing because they didn't really show the timer. It felt like that scene was supposed to be slightly longer to show that he kept freezing the bomb because the subway wasn't clear yet and ran out of time to save himself. While I was watching it, I knew he was going to die, but it wasn't clear how little time was left or that his motivation was that there was a minute left but the area wasn't clear so he stayed in order to give enough time for the evacuation, leaving himself with not enough time to get out.

Does anyone know when the season five dvd's will be released? And I too hope they have the missing stuff on there.
ABC should have bent over backwards to accomadate JJ. He gave them Lost which is their bread & butter right now so to bend him over and fuck up his original show makes no sense to me. Also they could have had more scenes in the finale simply by not going to commercial every three freaking minutes. Grrr.

Yeah, Lost is their main meal ticket now and Alias was the only thing keeping them afloat for a while there, so you'd think that they'd be a little more grateful to JJ and his show. But I've learned that network tv executives just suck as a general rule. It doesn't matter that your show basically propped up their entire network at one point in time, if your show isn't raking in the big bucks right this minute, it is dead to them. They don't care.

Yeah, and that shit always happens to shows I like.

You know, I totally should've thought of this a long time ago, but why did the show have Irina Derveko and Arvin Sloane having a Latina daughter? Or did they just expect us to suspend disbelief and think she just had really dark hair and a tan?

Ha! Good point. I think she did have a good imitation of the Derevko jaw, though.

Season Five has been released on DVD. Any new thoughts after watching the final season a second time around?
I've only seen Disc One so far. Are the extras on the last disc good?
