Have you ever wondered why Bill Hader seemed to break so much as Stefon? This behind the scenes look at how cue cards work on the show explains it. John Mulaney would often go to the cue card guys right before a taping and change his lines.

If you didn't catch last week's show, this was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time--and it would have been stupid and unfunny in anyone else's hands...

I also adore John Mulaney! (And pray he doesn't turn out to be a scumbag.)
I love that cue cards story! For some reason, I'm delighted that it's such a low tech process.

I had never heard of John Mulaney before he hosted last spring, but was really impressed. After "The Mule" piece I checked out his standup specials on Netflix, and he is now my #1 favorite comedian. I love him. (And he seems like a thoroughly good guy, so no reason to worry there.)
Now he's hosting again on March 2. Can't wait!!!
And on a related note, I'm no fan of Pete Davidson, but Mulaney has taken Pete under his wing in the past several months and it's very sweet. Mulaney almost went off the rails when he was a little younger than Pete, and I think that's why he wants to help. It's probably a hopeless cause because Pete exists in a cloud of marijuana smoke and surrounds himself with a big entourage full of losers at all times, but it's nice that he's trying.

John Mulaney's riff on House Hunters and realtors never fails to crack me up: link

I thought of that this morning when a coworker was telling me about her nephew and his new wife's idiotic beach house purchase. They are basically Craig and Stacia. "Let's see what Lori Jo can do on this week's Episode of You Don't Deserve a Beach House." LOL.
I also love Mulaney's Bill Clinton story.

I'm not sure why, but SNL has slowly been releasing some of their old, hard to find favorites on YouTube like More Cowbell and the Chippendales skit. I wonder if they'll upload Jingleheimer Junction next. P.S. I saw this one when I was a very little ghoul. It had to have been a rerun because I know my parents wouldn't have let me stay up to watch the live show. But it actually upset me because I liked Julia Child and I'm not sure I realized that this was not actually Julia Child. But it wasn't so much the blood, it was when she fell down at the end. I was really upset that I had just watched Julia Child die right in front of me. My mom said she probably just passed out from blood loss and wasn't actually dead... But now I'm wondering why my mom didn't explain further that this wasn't real in the first place. Not actually Julia Child, not actually bleeding, not actually dying or passing out right in front of me... I mean, dang mom! Missed teachable moment there! But anyway, glad to see it again... except I'd still rather watch real Julia Child and her superior knife skills. Dan Ackroyd can stick to busting ghosts and dropping fish into blenders!

I loved the Bodega sketch! It was just so random, filled with great songs, and little Audrey! Oompa loompas! Swimming rats! Singing cockroaches! Virgin Mary candle! Bodega cat!
I’d put it at top 10 sketches of all time!

The sketch with Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant selling meat from animals who were stupid jerks who never did anything cute in a youtube video has come up in conversation for me 3 times today so that was probably my favorite.
It was an all-around good show. I think it was closing in on 12:30 that they even started Weekend Update, which is always a sign that they have a lot of good material to front-load.
